    I worked at Mattel full-time

    Pros

Nice benefit package. Good salary. Friendly co-workers.

    Cons

lack of innovation and quick response to market

    Advice to Management

Lack of focus. Too centralization in functional organization. Quality dept has been over power for 10 years. Goal in quality is to stop innovation instead of helping other teams to work together to make a better product. Not encourage risk taking. Too much powerpoint presentation, talking than real action to streamline the organization and change the management culture.

I have been working at Mattel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits - half day Fridays, 50% discount at toy store. Relatively laid back culture and people. Good internal mobility - but needs to be driven through your own networking. Great pay.

    Cons

Management is trying to change the culture of the organization, but there are too many people used to the old way of working. Marketing led organization - sometimes too much focus on what's the next big PR story vs. what makes money for the business. Lack of sufficient communication at the top levels. Brands work in silos.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with each other and your teams more frequently and more transparently.

I worked at Mattel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of supportive and committed colleagues. Fantastic brand heritage with strong international presence. Space to get on with things without too much supervision in many areas

    Cons

Lack of coherent strategy from the top leading to confusion, unresolved conflict, rework and massive inefficiencies - and the lack of engagement that come with all that

    Advice to Management

    Communicate more and trust people

I worked at Mattel (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun environment. It's the type of place that will keeps you young at heart. The people, they are supremely creative and awesome to work with.

    Cons

The hours are long. Too many meetings. Last minute changes and constant indecisions are frustrating. The leadership is suspect at times

    Advice to Management

Take the time to reward the talent that you have. There is a disconnect between who is capable and who is rewarded.

I have been working at Mattel (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Loved the benefits and play to grow values. Training from HR was great.

    Cons

Horrible department managers. Sweet on the outside, gossipers and backstabbers on the inside. It's not how hard you work that will help you reach the top. It's how much you brown-nose them. When performing anonymous 360 reviews, our own managers would collect them, defeating the purpose of our reviews being anonymous.
