    Pros

Great benefits and time off is plentiful... onsite childcare, gym, cafeteria.

    Cons

Management, from the CIO down are the epitome of the good old boy network. Short sighted and profit driven treatment of employees

    Advice to Management

Start from the top down and educate the management team on how to treat employees.

    Pros

It's a company that has very strong brands ans that has very capable people at all levels

    Cons

It's undergoing a severe crisis and transformation. It doesn't have many processes which makes growing and working difficult most of the time.

I have been working at Mattel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Half-day Fridays (all year!), phenomenal benefits (401K matching, health, dental, etc.), great El Segundo campus amenities (gym, daycare, dry cleaning, etc.), fun colleagues, and a work culture that really likes to celebrate the holidays.

    Cons

A ridiculously top-heavy organization with leaders of questionable ability (Google "Mattel CFO" and "phishing scam" for a good laugh). I wouldn't recommend for anyone under a Director level because that's roughly the level when your thoughts & opinions are finally considered. Until that title, expect your workdays to involve resolving infighting among cross-functional partners, trying to align with the many levels of leadership, manually updating Excel spreadsheets in lieu of proper systems, and creating tons of PowerPoint presentations for internal meetings.

Aside from that, there's the constant chaos - from the mass exodus of talent to the regular reorgs, there's a running joke internally that "If you don't like something, just wait a few months". This sounds amusing until you realize what it means is that nobody knows what's going on because you're either onboarding new talent, working with new talent on other teams, or trying to figure out the latest dynamics of the org structure of the moment.

Other things people care about: Work/life balance is totally dependent on your team and your boss; it varies dramatically from team to team. Promotions are fairly easy to come by, put in ~2yrs and you're on your way up. Rotations to other teams/divisions used to be a selling point of the company but with so many people leaving, managers are more and more reluctant to let people rotate internally.

    Advice to Management

I honestly don't know where to begin. There are so many issues, most of which are complex. I hope Mattel can finally make the turnaround they've been talking about for two years but I still don't see the ship changing course...

    Pros

    Cons

At times priorities can change frequently - you need to be able to adapt to a new direction quickly.

I worked at Mattel full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits and 1/2 day Fridays but you work more than you think to get that 1/2 day...

    Cons

    A lot of politics.

    Advice to Management

Hold your teams accountable to the numbers that are projected or they are just fluffed numbers. Most are fluffed and not realistic.

I have been working at Mattel full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There is a great creative and inclusive community that works on the design side. Half day Fridays, good amount of company paid holidays and family oriented depending on your department.

    Cons

This really depends on which part of the company you work for.

    Advice to Management

I wish management cared more about the people under them. It seems like they treat you like you are lucky to work there and you are easily replaceable.
