A place of personal and professional growth
Jan 11, 2016 - District Manager in Louisville, KYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Coming into this company 6 years ago I could have never dreamed of the journey that was ahead of me. In that period of time Mattress Firm has helped transform me as both a person and business professional. The training is fun and designed to give you all the tools to hit the ground running. After training you have uncapped commission opportunities and bonuses that are fair and attainable. I started at the entry level sales position and have enjoyed first class leadership ever since, the people that manage you truly want you to succeed not just at work but in all areas of your life. The culture of autonomy helps sharpen individuals; that and the tools for learning that are provided help create the future leaders of the company.
Cons
This is a retail sales job so the hours can be tough for some people. Most days are worked in a store sometimes alone. However the compensation and growth opportunities out weigh this for most people.

LOVE LOVE LOVE My Career
May 21, 2016 - Manager On Duty in Bloomington, INRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Coming from a job that required constant travel and demands/deadlines, this opportunity has helped me immensely fine-tune my sales abilities while generating a healthy income. Co-Workers are one of the main reasons why I love my career. Everyone supports you and helps you when you need it the most. Answers to questions are only a phone call away. The training program itself is structured and organized down to the point. Training since day 1 has been extremely helpful and beneficial coming from a different background. Mattress Firm's advantage is its employees and we are rewarded for our knowledge and industry specs.
Cons
Although I was hired in one specific, geographical location, I have traveled up towards 60+ miles to work a regular shift. I am not too fond of driving two hours each day only to drive back home and get home sometimes an hour after we close at 8 P.M. Work-Life balance is somewhat difficult because of the retail environment that we work in. For those who do not wish to work weekends, this position is not for you.

Pros
You have the ability to ensure that your customers pay a competitive price, and that they receive excellent customer service. This company does stand behind their guarantees. It is a good place to learn the basics of retail and the mattress industry training is excellent.
Cons
Your income will depend, to an extent,on the store that you are assigned to work. Not all store see the same amount of traffic, and the busier stores pay a better bonus. You will be working most holidays and weekends.

Mattress Firm Works
Dec 28, 2015 - Store Manager in Charlotte, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The company provides good training initially and follows it up with Great training through online Visual Training. The pay is good for the industry and the work is not strenuous or difficult. The MF name is very well known and the Brand is well received. Potential for growth is high, promotes from within and is performance based vs. tenure based.
Cons
Work schedule is 10am to 8pm weekdays and Sat and Sun work is required. Days off may be Mon and Tues or Thurs and Fri.

It will be what you make of your time.
Jan 11, 2017 - Retail Store Manager in Charlotte, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You are in charge of your own destiny for the most part. Once you are in your own store, you can create flyers, post on social media, and talk with apartment complexes or condos about your store. The Area Managers and District Managers are very understanding and willing to work with you on your schedule when emergencies occur. If you want to work everyday, there is always a need for coverage in the market. They promote from within, so unlimited advancement when you earn it. Continual training classes happen and there are many outlets in which to improve your skills and knowledge
Cons
Paychecks will vary from week to week depending on your sales. There is a guaranteed hourly rate but the goal is to receive your pay from commission. When you first start, expect small paychecks and long drives as the district can span over a 50+ mile radius. Most people work in a store alone for 10 hours a day. You must bring food or have it delivered, you can't leave the store once its opened. Be prepared for long hours during the holidays, which you can not request off.

Great Company
Jan 17, 2016 - Manager In Training (MIT) in Frisco, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Mattress Firm is unlike any other corporation I have worked for. They take great care of their customers as well as their employees. They are a charitable company that raises awareness for pancreatic cancer among events as well. The training that is provided is excellent and they do all they can to set you up for success.
Cons
I really don't have anything negative to say about mattress firm.. Everyone here is great and has a positive attitude which is very rare.

Overall experience at Mattress Firm
Sep 23, 2016 - in Atlanta, GARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Fun, dynamic company culture. Worked with some amazing people who will be lifelong friends for sure. Amazing sales training that I will not forget and definitely use throughout my sales career.
Cons
1. With the amount of hours worked, and energy put into the job by associates our pay should not be either or. Hourly + commission should be the golden standard. The new pay structure is not beneficial to employees. I don't mind not having to deal with the draw system, but pay should be hourly + commission. I saw a 200-300 dollar decrease in my pay when we switched to the newer pay system. This was consistent with every paycheck. 2. Mattress Firm needs to stop over saturating the Atlanta market. Although more stores means more opportunities for Store, Area, and District Managers. However they should be spread out more and better placed strategically. The nature of making money at Mattress Firm is this. Sales prowress and location are key. I've had upper management tell me that doesn't matter, but that is in fact not true. If a small volume store sees 3 people daily and closes 75% of the guests, yet a large sees 7 and closes 75% of their business, and the larger store sees that traffic on a consistent basis they will make more money. I say that because it's the truth. I have no problem with working hard and proving myself to get to the large stores. However from a corporate leadership standpoint I believe they need to not have 3 stores all within a 5 minute drive from one another. It makes it very hard to make any money worth staying in a store by yourself for 10 hours at times. The better placement of stores or shutting some stores down would greatly help morale and keep Employees motivated to work and grow with Mattress Firm. More stores in the right locations and spread out and not so close to each other would be better for associates. 3. Fixing issue #2 would help with staffing to increase the work/life balance and keep people happy, and not drained at work. If more associates made good money, they would refer more people and I believe strategic store placement would help with that greatly. Then of course leadership would plan accordingly so staffing is never an issue if someone wants time off, has an emergency, or only wants to work a certain amount of hours.

Pros
Amazing company to work for! Opportunities for advancement and growth, great management team to help you succeed, and an positive atmosphere. The training program is extremely beneficial in order to succeed and help you grow as a sales professional!
Cons
Long hours, which you get with any retail job. Work most weekends and holidays, but also have the opportunity for more traffic and sales during that time.
