Pros
Mattress Firm has been committed to my development the past 9 years. If you are eager and driven, you can get so many things from this company. You can't do the minimum and expect success here. It comes with hard work and dedication just like any job. The difference between any other job and Mattress Firm is that the opportunities for growth are plentiful. They invest in training tools from online training to face to face training and they even assigns you to supplemental learning tools.
Cons
Days can be up and down just like any job. You will have your bad days, but they are offset by your good days.

Pros
Mattress Firm is a wonderful company for growth opportunities both professional and personal. I have never been a part of a company that invests as much into their staff as Mattress Firm does. From the start of your career you are given many different tools and resources to develop into the best sales person or manager you can be. The team environment is also fantastic and there are a multitude of amazing people that work for Mattress Firm!
Cons
The hours in store are retail, so they can get long, but if you can see around that there are very few Cons with the company.

I truly believe I am helping people get a better nights sleep. My colleagues are like family, there is definitely a team attitude. There is an opportunity to make some great money provided you learn and follow the Mattress Firm process.
Cons
Retail hours, you need to work weekends as this is when most couples can be out together and try beds. However, most of the time you do get 2 days in a row off.

Best job I've ever had
Jan 27, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I joined Mattress Firm 3 years ago and I was really hesitant to join. I'd had sales experience in the past and did not care for it. I knew little about the company, too. At the time, I was just desperate for work. Turns out, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Mattress Firm is a growing company that cares more about their employees than some smaller companies I've worked for. I've met many amazing people here and I've never enjoyed working more. This company is growing and willing to invest in their employees who are willing to grow too. The culture here is amazing and I plan to stay employed at Mattress Firm as long as I can.
Cons
While working in the stores, the hours can be a bit long. Having spent many years in the food and beverage industry, I was no stranger to this and actually found the time at work to be very enjoyable. Working on holidays became an opportunity to make money instead of just having a day off.
We're glad you made that decision 3 years ago! It's awesome to hear you have had a great experiece. Thanks for sharing your review!

In a good store, you can make money and decent commission. Co-workers are great to work with and there are some benefits like the holiday parties.
Cons
You have to be able to travel long distances and on top of your 50+ hour work week. No worklife balance, you work weekends, always. The benefits are very expensive and our ESOP (retirement) went away since we were bought by Mattress Firm. For years we heard about what a great culture we had at Sleep Country, and it was out the window as soon as they could sell. There is a cult like mentality in the District Leadership team. It is all their way and they are not open to new thoughts. I hoped it would get better since we are owned by a corporation. Not yet. HR is very cliquey and they are they think they are too cool. I have worked with much better and brighter. There is a real frat boy party atmosphere in this company. It's one good lawsuit waiting to happen.

Mattress Firm is vastly growing and provides great opportunity to its employees to grow with them. I have just started and can't describe how excited I am for my future with this company.
Cons
I have not encountered any cons with this job and do not see any in the near future. Everyday I am excited to go to work and learn something new.

Pros
Mattress Firm is a great company to learn sales and excel in sales. The training program is set up for success. Once you get the process down the advanced learning comes in. The continued learning has helped make Mattress Firm a Giant player in the Cincinnati market. Management advancement is easily achieved by those who put in the effort and want to advance in Mattress Firm.
Cons
Retail is retail. Long hours on holidays, and working weekends. If you can understand that is where you make your money then you will succeed.

Mattress Firm Corporate is the best. Being a Mattress Firm salesman is the worst.
Mar 17, 2015 - Sales Manager in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Descent money, Good insurance and other benefits. You can initially move up fast in the company with good sales performance.
Cons
Work-life balance is atrocious. I once requested off for a family court date and was not granted the time off. I requested the time off over 2 months in advance. I was then told it was my responsibility to get my shift covered even though I was told 2 months prior that 'family comes first at Mattress Firm.' Also, my wife has forbidden me from ever working there again. They are also notorious for taking away days off for absurd training. They amp you up and tell you you're going to learn something new, but it's always the same exact meeting. There's no need for these corporate guys with their guaranteed 2 days (an actual weekend too) off a week to be forcing an employee to give up one of their days off in order to tell me the same thing they've been telling me since my initial training. If you're married and have kids be prepared to never see them again around the Holidays. Mattress Firm also forces mandatory 6 day work weeks and extended hours for the following holidays: All Of Them. Once your store starts doing well they will skyrocket your sales goals then all-of-a-sudden your not making any more bonus money and your told your performance is weak, in relation to your store's goals. If this is such an amazing place to work then why are you always short staffed and unable to keep employees around longer?
