1 Word CULT this place is a sea of brainwashed people
Aug 29, 2014 - Store Manager in Houston, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
you work a lot so I guess that's good. you can watch netflix all day and keep up on tv shows. A lot of micromanagement.
Cons
This place will brainwash you. everyone who works here and that gets into upper management or gets a promotion is either dating someone who is in management or doing extra work for no compensation. Truth is they won't admit it till they get fired or quit. I think there are now at least 9 married couples working in corporate. pay is ok if you are put into a good store ,but good luck if you aren't kissing someone's butt you are stuck in a mediocre store working 50 hrs a week for peanuts. The culture is ridiculous and if you don't drink the koolaid they will find a reason to get rid of you. Oh yeah they also act like they are doing so much good for the community and pancreatic cancer But the pancreatic cancer cause was another chains idea that they continued as part of the buy out. To add the replace every 8 was not their idea a company in California used that slogan before them..they just bought the rights to use it. This company has no original ideas and it will catch up with them. Also their prices are sooooo high you have to justify why Mattress firm prices are 2 to 3 hundred dollars more than Macys and Mattress One, and then when you drop price to beat the competition you lose commission. I Had no life, the company thinks you should think about MATTFIRM all the time. This place will use you up and spit you out in no time . I mean c'mon you sell mattresses it should be easy no drama but since you have a store on every corner your friend down the street is undercutting you. There are 3 mattress firms on every corner. Stay away and get some real Experience in sales. If you want to have no work life balance and constant up and downs this is the job for you. Getting home at 9 every night with no weekends off not fun.extended hours holidays.

Pros
Lots of downtime, training opportunities.
Cons
No work life balance mattress firm doesnt care if you have family obligations longer days than most retail jobs. Recently changed pay scale cant afford anything, working 50 hours a week for next to nothing not worth it.

Great place to work! Great benefits and pay, only opportunity is the hours.
Feb 27, 2019 - Area Manager in Allentown, PARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great pay structure, family work environment, commission potential is abundant, and you truly own your own business!
Cons
Work life balance can be difficult sometimes if you work open to close 5 days a week. It is worth the investment of time, however it is up to you what you want to invest into your career.

It’s a mixture of things with pros and cons
Jun 4, 2018 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-You’re not micromanaged. -They try to work with you even though the hours make it hard for that work life balance. It’s not ideal for a single parent unless you have support or childcare available. -Great position for preparing you to run your own business some day.
Cons
You never get weekends off unless you request them a month in advance, although the schedule might be put out a day or two before the new week starts. Personal questions aren’t off limits apparently.

Revolving Door of Hires and Fires/Quits
Oct 5, 2021 - Sleep Expert in San Jose, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Steady hours, you'll be working 9:45am-8:00pm Monday to Saturday, Sundays are 9:45am-6pm, so plenty of hours. you get paid hourly and commission if you make more in commission then you would hourly. Almost everyone works alone weekdays, weekends are busy money making days. You can not take off Holidays, you will get you schedule days before the next month begins and they can decline your requests due to low staff anytime.
Cons
Holiday weekends are the worse, 7:45am-9pm, there are never lunch breaks or breaks after your training is complete, you will be required to waive them. You will not be allowed to leave the store during your shift unless there is somebody with you(makes sense, but 3 of 5days you work alone) so don't forget to bring lunch and water. If your not a pushy seller they will send you to a slower store to become an aggressive seller or to let you go due to your low numbers. Inventory is always off, you will have issues with inventory, they use a universal key so after you close your store another person can come into your store without your knowledge. I hated that. They can decline your requests for any reason(Like for a graduation, wedding, anniversary ,it's tough) their favorite excuse : low staffed*. I got written up for missing work on a weekend due to my family member having a stroke. We had the store staffed, but I MISSED WORK. They don't care about work life balance and threaten you with firing you all the time in order to get your numbers up. 'I don't want to think about you looking for a job in this economy' It's probably the most toxic workplace I've worked at. They are so nice at first because they selling you the job before you sell their products.

The biggest positive was the extensive amount of training made available year round. The second best thing about the company was that with its expansion across the nation, growth opportunities if you were willing to relocate were abundant.
Cons
I would say the only drawback was the long work hours. When you consistently put in 50 plus hours a week maintaining a work life balance is next to impossible.

Pros
The pay is good as long as you're good at sales and in a decent position like a store manager.
Cons
Hours are awful. Literally no work life balance even when the company acts like they'll give it to you. You do get 2 days off a week SOMETIMES when it's not a holiday weekend, at which point you work about 45 hours in 4 days which is insanity. If you have kids or a family at all, take a different job as management will never listen to your advice and always think their way is best. No room for advancement either unless you want to relocate every 2 years to a random state.

Not job for real professionals that value hard work, want a long term career, and value time with your family.
Dec 7, 2015 - Store ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Most of the time I've worked here I've liked my co-workers. Easy job. A lot of downtime. Opportunity to make decent money.
Cons
Company doesn't care about salespeople. Don't value seasoned salespeople enough. High turn over. Management is fake. They constantly change sales process, and want you to sell like a robot. No work life balance which is ok for short term but definitely not a place to stay long term. They constantly require you go to meetings on Saturdays which extend our already long hours. Also require you to go to workshops and trainings on your day off! Corporate is opening up new stores a block away from existing stores. It isn't gaining new clientele just taking away from your other stores and salespeople. This company is more worried about growing rapidly and buying out companies and adding new stores, they can't keep existing stores in good shape, and don't put enough resources into making sure employees are happy and operations of existing stores are going smoothly. They are about quantity not quality in every aspect. The problems with company start from the top, but salespeople take blame.
