You will be a better engineer and person for working here

      Pros

I have never and probably will never work in a more supportive team. Working at Mavenlink is a delight every day. The defining attribute of working as a developer at Mavenlink is XP practices. Pair programming and TDD. If you did a little pairing in college and hated it because it was so boring I really recommend you come in with an open mind and give it another shot. You will learn a ton about yourself as a programer and about the tools you are using. Mavenlink invests in their employees and the people are smart, thoughtful and interesting.

      Cons

There are two major bummers about working here: 1) Product and sales operate essentially as entirely separate companies. The sales team is always selling things that don't exist yet and product is left in the dark to what actually matters to customers. (this is very normal for a sales led software company, but it is a shame) 2) Pair programming, while awesome, is exhausting, and severely limits flexibility. Sometimes it can feel like you are working on an assembly line and expected to be generating maximum output form 9 to 6 sharp.

      Good company, bad pay

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Company culture is great, though it's starting to become neutered with new heads of departments.

      Cons

People are leaving in droves, company culture is changing, pay increases are miniscule, work is getting harder while due to pay increases I become poorer every year

      Poised for Market Leadership

Jan 17, 2021 - Senior Marketing Manager in Irvine, CA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Mavenlink is a well-positioned software company that has built a truly special and unique culture over time. There is a deeply established commitment to cohesiveness, collaboration, diversity/inclusiveness, and team member physical and mental health. People here really care about each other and this shows every day, even during the challenges of the last year due to the Pandemic. This unique culture, together with a clear vision for the business, a strong value proposition, excellent product, and deep domain experience means the company is poised for great things over the next few years. It's a special time to be a member of the Mavenlink team in terms of job satisfaction, learning, and career growth. I am fortunate to be here.

      Cons

This stage of the company's growth is demanding and requires exceptional commitment, and this means a role here isn't for everyone. This is an important issue to manage both within the employee base and through recruiting.

Good Engineering Culture, Serious Company-Level D&I Issues

      Mar 17, 2021 - Software Engineer
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Engineering culture is quite solid with regular book clubs, time to pursue projects and career growth, and healthy awareness and usage of engineering principles and practices - Par on compensation and benefits (except PTO, see below) - Heavily tested codebase - Engineers are friendly and willing to share and help

      Cons

      - D&I seems to be something cared about only by the R&D side of the organization, and regularly people at the helm make _very_ questionable decisions in this area - PTO seems well below other "modern" organizations and young(er) companies - R&D leadership is great with feedback, but lacks empowerment and struggles to make things happen in the context of the larger management and C-suite structure

      Couldn't be happier...

Jan 21, 2021 - Senior Client Success Manager in Irvine, CA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Have met some of the most talented people working here and everyone is always willing to help out solve problems or issues for clients. Coming from outside the industry, it was refreshing that I didn't feel like I needed to know everything, but be able to find the right people to get the answers I need.

      Cons

The Process is very defined and thought out and has and is continuing to evolve. This can be a bit overwhelming at times especially for such a small(er) company. The good news is that there are lots of resources at our fingertips that help find the right info to the right process (guru, Slack, etc) that can make it easier especially while everyone is WFH

Great work life balance. Ok culture

Apr 28, 2021 - Software Engineer in Salt Lake City, UT
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great work life balance. Hours are rigid, but you (almost) never need to work late. I also love Friday Project Time. Basically you can use Friday afternoons to work on whatever you want and it doesn't need to be strictly related to work

      Cons

Conservative views are often demeaned, and politics are strictly liberal. You are not free to share other views without being shamed by a core group of loud individuals who have free reign

      Pros

Strong company culture, transparent communication from the management team, and a great product/market fit.

      Cons

No major cons, it's just been a major change to work remotely with Covid!
