I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Outside of IT Management -- Many great people to work with.

    Cons

Extremely Poor Management Keeps Contractors Indefinitely with no chance of Direct Hire Micro Management

    Advice to Management

My advise to management is as follows: * Refrain from Micro-Management * Provide direct hire options / Eliminate Contract Only IT Positions * Improve Management Skills Maxim loses so many talented IT Members as a result of this and keeps contractors indefinitely (Some over 5 years) without an option for direct hire. IT Management needs to treat contractors with respect like any other employee. They should also acknowledge and promote those interested in Full Time Positions. I was advised that resumes were sent in by employees who had expressed interest in Full Time Positions directly to managers and received not even an acknowledgment of receipt. Very unprofessional and discouraging. IT staff is presented with unrealistic expectations by management. Management micro manages employees, and constantly interrupts them while in the middle of assisting employees with their technical issues. This is extremely unprofessional and demeaning to their technicians. He seems to want to be on the spot light and take credit for many of the employee problem resolutions. When management decides to end your contract you are walked out with no option to even collect your personal belongings, and then pointed to the door. Not even a "Thank You for your Service, we regret to have to dismiss you after your long term commitment and faithful service to the company." To me this is very disrespectful and portrays very poor management skills. Maxim could be such a great place to work for, but is being brought down by the new IT Management Staff within the last few years. Maxim has lost many extremely talented IT Technicians as a result of this combination of poor management and their lack of commitment by providing any opportunities for Contract to Hire Roles. If you are considering an IT opportunity at Maxim I would advise to think twice!

I worked at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

If you think that whatever doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger (I don’t think so in the case of this employer for PC-Tech

    Cons

Hi turnover for PC-Techs, contract for only a year with no hire (per upper management, higher than IT’s VP), treat contractors like crap(can’t use the gym, no holiday party, can’t attend the all hands meetings and more, manager doesn’t listen to his employees, it’s all “us as a team” until manager gets upset then it’s “you guys”, manager doesn’t know how to talk to people, manager is two faced. I am not exaggerating, about all 10 Techs that left within the past year would agree and have agreed with me. There are currently six techs supporting 1400 employees! There’s no efficiency when as soon as someone knows what they are doing, they are terminated and you have to train new techs to eventually replace you. I’ve heard that California law says after one year of employment a contractor has to be hired or terminated. My team was continuously rolled over to different contracting agencies to avoid hiring PC Techs full time. When questioned by HR, PC Techs started getting terminated to avoid converting to full time employees. The whole team was frustrated and all of the Techs say the current manager is terrible.

    Advice to Management

Overhaul because it’s not working. Too cheap but only end up spending more money. Consider the productivity that is lost by engineers when the new tech doesn’t know what they’re doing because you fired the experienced technician. A huge catch twenty two. The Techs or management are never happy because of it.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay was good for experience. Lots of hand on learning. Open to innovation.

    Cons

Niche market. May find it hard to make comparable pay in the area, if you feel you have to leave. No real training for new employees. Will start you on 12 hour night shift.

    Advice to Management

Establish a training program for new people.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

Great benefits, great pay for technicians. Bonus, annual raises, good hours. job growth. Great people. Been with company for over 11 years.

    Cons

To many bosses. Seems like bosses play favorites. Raises are not fair. See hard working people not get rewarded and poor workers Germany rewarded.

    Advice to Management

Be more straight forwards to your employees
