    I worked at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

Engineers are given a good deal of freedom to run with new ideas.

    Cons

Frequent layoffs have caused nagging morale issues Strategic vision seems to be offshoring everything Design engineering is the only department that matters to upper management

    Advice to Management

Keep experienced engineers. You are losing much of the expertise that helped build Maxim in the first place and is required to keep it running. Manufacturing ICs takes more than just good designers.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated for more than 8 years

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for the company to be successful; CEO with engineering background has what it takes to lead the company; good balance between home and office.

    Cons

Upper management still old-school, causing slow movement due to politics; career paths not particularly strong or enforced, so one must be good at self-career management.

    Advice to Management

Outdated mindset due to aging & non-changing executive management. CEO needs to take more action in driving a cultural change into the 21st century.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The physical plant is very nice. The cafeteria and gym at HQ are both great. It is possible to have work life balance

    Cons

Company has shown no growth in past 5 years. Hard to believe reorgs will fix this. Company has made multiple acquisitions that didn't work out. Repeated layoffs have impacted morale. Many groups work in silos and don't communicate. Upper management may be great engineers, but they have minimal leadership abilities.

    Advice to Management

Focus on revenue growth, not on short term quarterly profits. Hold senior execs accountable for results.

I worked at Maxim Integrated full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I have made my lifelong friends here and worked with some great smart engineers. Fast paced with lots of interesting technologies to learn.

    Cons

-Very difficult to motivate yourself to work under very vague directions by upper management. -Used to be an engineering driven company but it has changed under Tunc. Too many project managers who don't have a clue and only listens to BMs with unrealistic schedules to achieve. -They won't fire you directly but they will indirectly humiliate you publicly by lowering your job title and give you an impossible project to complete. -Employees are just numbers. -Very unstable for a long term career. -Constant layoffs and shutdowns.

    Advice to Management

-Stop sending jobs to overseas especially to MPOC. 4 doesn't equal to 1 US engineer.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated

    Pros

Top talent gets recognized and hard work is not an option. Everyone at Maxim works long and hard, but compensation is usually consistent with the performance.

    Cons

Work/home life balance can be hard to balance. Upper management fixed on outsourcing many jobs and functions of the company.

    Advice to Management

When business is good the company should hold cash to prepare for the slower times rather than always be in a crises management mode. Also need a better method of retaining the top talent.

an amazing collection of engineers and technical staff. you can be working on cutting edge did I say there was some great talent

    Cons

upper management the company has a few divisions who act like fiefdoms this can have an inhibiting effect on communication. because of that if there is a problem people can get thrown under the bus. IT understaffed

    Advice to Management

decide if your one company or multiple companies.

I have been working at Maxim Integrated full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The people you work with on a day to day basis at Maxim are great. I have met many good IT and Business co workers who have been here many years.

    Cons

Upper Management has unrealistic expectations. The Maxim way of life is eat, sleep, breath Maxim and there is no room for anything else.
