I have been working at Maxxam Analytics full-time

    Pros

Many friendly people, and a good learning environment, if you are coming out of a chemistry program.

    Cons

Long commuting times, considering traffic, if coming from outside of Mississauga. Some labs can be loud, smelly, or hot, but overall not bad.

    Advice to Management

Management has been good, very friendly, and personable, easy to talk to, and fair. Interviews are easy going and fair, in a friendly environment.

    Cons

    Pay should be increased
Some things are kinda outdated and need to be fixed.
Not a long term job, good for University grads or someone needing experience and references

    Advice to Management

Respect and reward loyal and hardworking employees. Make things happen as soon possible instead of elongating until may people complain.

I have been working at Maxxam Analytics as an intern

    Pros

Learn a lot of job responsibilities in the food micro lab, weighing, plating, supplies, media prep, etc

    Cons

non paid co op, very fast pace, high expectations to learn everything from the start

    Advice to Management

Too many co op students hired and difficult to get quality training and experience from the mentors

I worked at Maxxam Analytics as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great working conditions - very busy meaning it's hard to get bored. Environment are less strict and more social than in the lab, which creates for more social interactions with your co-workers. Overall the company treats their employees with. Contract and part-timers don't get many benefits, while full-time employees do.

    Cons

No real benefits for Contract and part-timers. It's harder to move up in the company -- most people will not receive more than a few dollars of raise throughout their time there. While being busy is great to pass time quicker, it can also be a negative as work can pile up requiring a ton of over time.

    Advice to Management

Have a better system for increasing employee salary. Living conditions are only becoming more expensive, and that could affect employees quite a bit.

    Pros

Good management in remote labs, lots of young professionals, lower competition for entry level jobs.

    Cons

Low salary if you're working in the city. The company dynamic seems to change a lot. Unhappy with the lack of salary increases despite getting great reviews. They provide the minimum two weeks of vacation.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the remote lab workers are not ignored by HR. Overall your priorities seem good and I'm happy with the management I've received.

    Pros

Great place to start your career. If you are willing to learn and are motivated, they will train you and teach you. The work culture and the people are wonderful!
There are opportunities to move within the company.

    Cons

Poor compensation. But lot of little perks to take your mind off the poor salary. (ie. Summer BBQ, Bagel day each month, holiday party). When you start here fresh out of school, it's great, but very easy to reach a glass ceiling where you have nowhere to go. And the $ doesn't increase.

A lot of the management have been around for decades, and even though they are experienced, they do NOT have managerial skills. And there is favoritism.... which is very clear sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Talk to each other! Not just about golf, but why your employees are unhappy. Have real discussions with BV. Changing the structure may shift the workload a tiny bit, but it doesn't change the pay, which is a joke. Give recognition to employee who work hard and deserve it!. Cut the favoritism!
