I have been working at MayCom Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Although the company keeps growing, you still can pick up the phone and speak to the owner. It's a family environment and if you have concerns or issues and you reach out, they listen. You get what you give out of this job. That goes for pay, respect, growth, etc.

    Cons

Not a lot of structured training. We need a consistent system used across the board to ensure reps are getting what they need out of training.

    Advice to Management

Come up with a structured training time-line for new employees and follow up on it to be sure it's being enforced. Maybe implement a fast track for experienced reps.

    Pros

Family style business that flows to the field. Lots of benefits to choose from. Flexible work schedule. Caring management team.

    Cons

Health benefits are costly. Think about the entire team that works for you instead of just the sales team. Reward everyone for their hard not just sales.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the employees issues

I have been working at MayCom Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation opportunities, good atmosphere and the ability to move up as long as you work hard and perform consistently.

    Cons

There is not a lot of back office support unless you work close to home office, and management can be hit or miss, with some truly great managers, but other exceptionally poor ones.

    Advice to Management

Work harder to keep good people, and focus more on developing the people you have into quality representatives who can stay with the company and provide the performance desired.

I have been working at MayCom Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great comp plan
    Decent benefits
    Nice work environment

The job is rewarding when the customer flow and commissions number is there

    Cons

Slow months are terrible on your stress levels. You'll be constantly hounded about low gross profit and to make it worse the minimum for commission is the minimum metric. So being a service tech like myself you get hit with repair issues and trying to make sales on top of that. They use a one size fits all commission platform which for my area is terrible. I live in a small town where we are overstaffed and nothing will be done about it so we continue to do poorly. They expect you to basically beg or you're not trying hard enough for a sale . I wish they would change the way commission is done to be more fair. I've never worked at a job where commission is a requirement and it is very off putting. So tread carefully into this job as you'll be expected to leave your morals at the door and do whatever it takes to make a sale even if it means being dishonest.

    Advice to Management

One size fits all commission don't work. You'll lose tons of potential manager worthy employee's to just not being able to stay a float with commission requirements beings so static

    Pros

Really great people you work with

    Cons

Too much sucking up, just tons of fraud at all levels. A lot of higher ups quit because the company is going nowhere. No upward momentum

    Advice to Management

Literally fire most managers. Instead of dumb sales promos like Katanas, give bonuses &increase upward momentum.

I worked at MayCom Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company does have opportunities to move up and most everyone makes the company feel like family. They do reward excellence which a lot of companies do not. Back office team is helpful.

    Cons

Upper management in the district makes the environment unfriendly by making promises he cannot keep and causing stress to reps and managers by lying and harrassing them. Company takes to long to act on problems like this and it costs them many loyal, talented reps, managers, etc.

    Advice to Management

Take complaints serious. If you have someone that is consistently not happy, find out the cause and try to resolve it. Your employees are the first line of defense with your clients and when they feel unheard with NOTHING being done to resolve the issues, it makes people underperform. Take a look at the difference when things started going down hill, before your tenured 2+ year employees decided Maycom was no longer a family to them. Take care of your employees and they will take care of you.
