I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Does not require ASCP certification, just a four year science degree! Professional growth encouraged in those eager to learn. Relocation assistance. Patient focused. Pretty good training.

    Cons

Two year contract period before being able to switch labs.

    Advice to Management

Find ways to keep employees engaged in their work and with their co-workers.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Incredible benefits, PTO time, and wage right when you start the company. The training is very thorough and the people are great!

    Cons

No additional income possible except the yearly wage bump. No matter how hard you work everyone gets paid the same depending on seniority only.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to reward those working harder than others.

I worked at Mayo Clinic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Mayo Clinic is a great place to work at. This was my first job out of college and it was an excellent experience!

    Cons

The supervisor I had was not the most helpful or beneficial to my growth as an individual, however that is my only con to the company.

    Advice to Management

The management I had for my position was awful. They would say one thing, and then do something completely opposite. Never cared what their employees thought. Saw many people who had been with our department leave

I have been working at Mayo Clinic

    Pros

always hiring, so great for recent graduates. great work experience. very meaningful work. Great coworkers. Great pay and annual raises.

    Cons

management has no formal training and is not great at handling employee conflicts. Training for employees is poor and veteran employees are not nice to new employees.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging. encourage employees to try and solve their own problems before telling management.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Clinical lab work here is a breeze: up to date instruments and methods, tons of specialist support, and all the Facebooking you want. Mayo subsidizes public transportation (including coach buses), which allows long-distance commuters to defray travel costs. Employees have access to world-class doctors and treatments for their own medical care.

      Cons

As the "Bastion of Conservatism", dress codes are too rigid and out of date, especially for areas with zero patient contact. Mayo used to offer all employees free health care and a more relaxed absentee policy; over the years they have slowly tightened the screws to eliminate little perks that used to be taken for granted. Mayo is located in the bowels of Minnesota = Winter Hell.

      Advice to Management

We're all professionals here. Don't micromanage us with rigid policies regarding professional appearance and discipline procedures for "tardy attendance".
