I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Everyone at Mayo is pretty nice, but cliquey. Lots of job opportunities, but it is difficult to actually move up or transfer. You have to network to get any where.

    Cons

The pay is pretty low compared to other hospitals. Mayo doesn't reward or punish employees. The only way to get in trouble is to be late or absent too many times. Its nice if you're a great employee, but they never fire or reprimand bad/lazy employees.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The pay is usually higher than regional standards, especially for entry-level positions. There are many opportunities to change jobs without having to change companies.

    Cons

The culture of each work unit drastically changes along with the standards and expectations. Overall, the culture at Mayo is very conservative. You will get your hand slapped for silly things like wearing pants that don't quite reach your ankles (for females) or for wearing a casual zip-up sweater, even if your office doesn't have heat and you sit in a locked office all day not seeing patients once.

I worked at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great benefits, wonderful physicians, above average pay. Beautiful facilities, great cafeteria food.

    Cons

Do more with less...basically as a medical secretary having to support 4 to 7 physicians is very stressful and too much for 1 person to handle. You work hard and rarely get recognition of your good work.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent benefits, reasonably good pay, consistent hours, emotionally rewarding, professional environment, training available, busing was paid for, good, healthy cafeteria food available at all times

    Cons

sometimes understaffed, was laid off due to downsizing, some of the doctors were very arrogant and overbearing, office culture was backstabbing and unnecessarily stressful over petty issues

I worked at Mayo Clinic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits are excellent, including medical insurance, paid time off, discounts, back-up childcare, and 401K. Salary is above average and there is always room for advancement and able to apply to new positions every year or two.

    Cons

Conservative environment despite the "diverse atmosphere" they claim to have.
