I have been working at Mayo Clinic part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Coworkers, teamwork, pay, well known company People generally have stayed in their positions for the job security and their coworkers. The pay is good for the area, but not nearly enough for the job being done and the high expectations placed on patient care employees.

    Cons

politics, favoritism, micromanaging, budget cuts, scheduling, burnout The obnoxious understaffing (on purpose) has caused even faster burnout on employees and with strict rules, everyone has quickly become unhappy. They say you get 10 sick days per year, but really you get corrective action beginning with 6. Any corrective action results in held pay increases, no tuition reimbursement for a year, and other big incentives....

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees like you used to. This company used to care about their employees and patients, but not anymore. Just like everywhere else, all they care about is money. It's considered non profit, but all they do is talk about how to save money now, yet they donate left and right and build new unnecessary structures and pay outrageous salaries to management in positions that aren't needed. Raises have been...

I worked at Mayo Clinic part-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Professional environment where you are treated like a person, rather than a number. Good benefits, good working conditions in most departments.

    Cons

Too much middle management and bureaucracy. PTO is plentiful, but not always easy to use. Promotions can depend on who, not what, you know.

    Advice to Management

Take accountability for unpopular decisions, don't just blame it on what 'Mayo in Rochester' is doing. Provide advancement opportunities fairly.

    Pros

Benefits, pay, dedicated employees, lovely ambiance.

    Cons

    Management / leadership is poor.

    Advice to Management

Company values need to be practiced not just given "lip service" by incompetent managers.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The pay is above average, the benefits are great. Some of the people are very nice and friendly. They pay for your uniform once every year for a pca and they pay for all classes you may need to take for your job (such as CPR). I just love working with those patients that you grow a bond with :)

    Cons

They make it seem like this amazing place to work, where everyone is always happy and friendly. They sweep under the rug certain, however. Some of the people are very full of themselves and have an attitude. I have lived in Minnesota for most of my life and I don't really care for the area nor the people...sorry.

    Advice to Management

Make changes for everybody, not just the "lower" positions. Expect everyone to do their best and nothing less.
