I have been working at Mazda North American Operations full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company with lots of potential. Take control of your future because no one at Mazda no anywhere else will. Learn the business and either get happy being bored or use it as a spring board for your future.

    Cons

Everyone is out for themselves and with the exception of a rare few none of the management has an interest in development of their team members.

    Advice to Management

    Reset, refresh, restart.

I have been working at Mazda North American Operations full-time

    Pros

I have been with Mazda for more than 5 years and find it a great place to work. Product is second to none, people are great to work with and the company is definitely headed in the right direction. Career oriented people that put in an honest day’s work will find there are numerous opportunities for personal growth and advancement. Unfortunately, like any company, some employees choose to blame others and play the victim rather than acknowledge their own poor work ethic. At the Mazda Northeast Region I truly believe my career is up to me, not somebody else.

    Cons

Salaries/Compensation are competitive, but a little more would send a strong message on where we see ourselves among other manufacturers.

    Advice to Management

We’re on the right track, stay the course!

    - Learning, Learning, Learning
    - Lazies Fare style management
    - Very little power distance
    - Modern Values (NER)
-- Brand New Open and Connected Regional Office
-- Collaborative approaches are supported and encouraged

    Cons

    - Job is meant for those self-motivated
-- I find this to be a plus, they provide me with resources (both educational and personal) for any task I have been assigned or initiative i have started)
-- Not for those who prefer routine tasks

    Advice to Management

Thank you for creating an environment in which learning is supported, creativity is encouraged, and hard work is rewarded.

    Pros

Enjoyed the people on the team very much. The management was great to work with as well. Mayn have been there a long time.

    Cons

The influence from Ford can be good and bad at times. There is some degree of creativity in approaching solutions to problems but the general plan is handed down to Mazda.

    Advice to Management

Found HR very narrow minded regarding IT people's strengths and appropriate compensation. Overall thought eh job pays well and the benefits are fantastic. Best health insurance I ever had plus two company cars.

    Pros

The company was great and had great perks including ability to rent or lease vehicles. The cars are fun and the senior management seemed to be sincere, interested and talented.

    Cons

The company as a whole had few cons. The department I was in (IT) was somewhat less than helpful and more stressful than other areas. Cooperation was not easily found especially for someone new.

    Advice to Management

The IT management needs to develop a culture of cooperation and support for one another to provide better support and be more successful.

    Pros

Great brand with good products. Wonderful benefits package, including car benefits and vacation time. Management is very informative with company's performance.

    Cons

Salaries are not competitive with other local companies within and outside of the same industry. Benefits only compensate for part of that difference. Very little is done by HR to encourage growth, you're pretty much on your own (including any outside networking, training, seminars, etc.. no budget).

    Advice to Management

Do more to make employees proud to work for Mazda. Sometimes the cost cutting hurts morale and give employees the impression they're the next to go.

    Pros

Car allowance is great. B level employees get $550/month to use for lease of up to three vehicles. 'C' level employees get $650/month. Any money left over from the allowance is added to your paycheck.
    Great medical and dental benefits.
Fitness benefit of $300 per year can be used to buy bicycles or for gym memberships.
    Very good looking cars.

    Cons

Easy to plateau in your position and reach a career dead end.
Absolutely NO diversity among senior management and executive team.
    Horrible food in the cafeteria.
Very cliquish environment. If you're not in the "right" clique your career advancement opportunities are slim.
The company refuses to support progressive fuel economy standards and deliver more fuel efficient vehicles.

    Advice to Management

Don't pit employees against each other. Use employees respective talents to build well rounded teams. Forcing team members to compete creates unnecessary tension.

    Pros

Great culture, do not take themselves to seriously, great managers who see the big picture and want to help grow their employees into future leaders

    Cons

Not a large company so there is sometimes not a lot of places to move in terms of career progression
