I have been working at Mazda North American Operations full-time

    Pros

I have been with Mazda for more than 5 years and find it a great place to work. Product is second to none, people are great to work with and the company is definitely headed in the right direction. Career oriented people that put in an honest day’s work will find there are numerous opportunities for personal growth and advancement. Unfortunately, like any company, some employees choose to blame others and play the victim rather than acknowledge their own poor work ethic. At the Mazda Northeast Region I truly believe my career is up to me, not somebody else.

    Cons

Salaries/Compensation are competitive, but a little more would send a strong message on where we see ourselves among other manufacturers.

    Advice to Management

We’re on the right track, stay the course!

    Pros

    Good people, Good support,Good direction.
if you work hard it's recognized. It's hard to get let go. Those I have seen go worked harder at not working and blamed other factors.

    Cons

salaries a little low compared to other OEM's

    Pros

Great Product created by very passionate people. A lot of talent in the building. New CEO with new Vision.

    Cons

Not everyone has the company's best interest in mind. Some people are working solely for self promotion at the expense of the company. It takes away from what could be the most amazing place to work. Well known internally that they don't tend to promote women.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of people in the company who believe in the product and the philosophy behind what you are trying to achieve. It's time to really seek out the talent internally and reward them. This would work wonders for morale, that could use a boost. Take time to see through the smooth talking slick management who are not putting the company before their own agendas.

I worked at Mazda North American Operations (More than a year)

    Pros

Very few positives. Good medical benefits.

    Cons

Lack of diversity. Unfriendly employees. No upward mobility. No defined career track for employees. Management not open to change.

    Advice to Management

The employees of an organization, should look like the customers the want to target. Many of the meetings felt like a Klan Rally.

I have been working at Mazda North American Operations full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally good benefits, especially employee lease car program. Good work/life balance; you won't normally work on weekends.

    Cons

Production staff at the East Coast facility are broadly underpaid, especially in comparison with salary ranges at HQ in Irvine. This is reflected in bonuses and car allowances as well.

Good employees get hammered while lazy employees get away with skating; the other review mentioning how some just listen to iPods or walk around chatting all day is true. If you're one of the good employees who cares and you can't do all the tasks that get piled on you, your reviews unfairly suffer. Layoffs disproportionately affect the people at the low end; senior managers don't face dismissal.

Cost-cutting gets to the point of being parsimonious: for example, we can spend $100K to move a piece of equipment but we can't come up with $4K to properly fix a forklift. Mazda is privately traded, so we don't know what the big dogs such as Jim O. actually make, but we bet it's way more than his counterpart at MC Japan.

Finally, there's little advancement opportunity, and HR is not trusted and absolutely not responsive to employees who meed their help. HR staff will not return phone calls and e-mails, for example. But HR staff is very responsive at layoff time.

    Advice to Management

    Fix pay and workload discrepancies.

I worked at Mazda North American Operations full-time

    Pros

Great people, great benefits, it is a small enough company where your voice matters. Family is important to the higher ups.

    Cons

Small company in comparison to other automakers which can be bad sometimes. Pay is a little less than other automakers, but benefits out way and people stay longer here than other companies.

    Pros

    Friendly people, good car benefits.

    Cons

Very, very few opportunities for career advancement women. This type of con is common in the auto industry, but even more evident at Mazda which is definitely a boys club.
