I worked at Mazzoni Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The organization's mission and commitment to serving the LGBTQI community in Philadelphia. Committed, capable staff and providers offer high quality services to a diverse, underserved population.

    Cons

Lack of transparency, limited advancement, many uncomfortable "secrets".

    Advice to Management

Improve diversity, transparency in hiring, empower staff by sharing leadership, build accountability for ethical practice throughout the organizational leadership through greater transparency.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Mazzoni Center full-time

    Pros

Camaraderie- nearly every employee that isn't in a management/leadership/executive position will share your every frustration, making it a solid group of people you can rely on to trudge through your day.

    Cons

Where to even begin? Mazzoni's total lack of transparency will always ensure that front line staff continue to feel devalued and uncared for. Getting rid of the former Executive Director will not have changed how the organization fundamentally operates, so don't be fooled into thinking you'll be in for a new experience. Every single person I worked with has experienced the disillusionment that occurs about a year or so into the job...you're drawn in because of the mission, which is an excellent one, and then you slowly start to realize that not only does Mazzoni lack true compassion for its employees, but for the very community they are serving. If that matters at all to you, stay away from this place.

    Advice to Management

Try to become fundamentally better human beings.

I worked at Mazzoni Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

very accepting of all LGBTQ+ identities, a good work environment to transition in, has a committee of staff to address some of the issues of racism that have been frequently brought up in the past year

    Cons

lack of professional development, no management training, lack of consistency and communication across agency, lack of diversity in management, lack of protocol and policy in multiple departments, a lot of relationship politics that hinder the successful pursuit of the organization's mission

    Advice to Management

Listen to front line staff. Meet concerns with actions instead of platitudes.
