I have been working at McAfee full-time

    Pros

Great leadership. Integration with Intel seems beneficial overall.

    Cons

Good old boys network is rampant and makes it difficult for the females to excel and be rewarded fairly.

I worked at McAfee (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people and benefits were top notch. I felt like I was making a difference in the world about the bad guys.

    Cons

Good raises and internal promotions were very rare. Old technology was used and processes constantly changed. Innovation rarely existed. The product was poorly architected in the beginning which made new features and automation costly.

I worked at McAfee full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

So much is broken, that there is room to fix something - anything - and shine.

    Cons

Sub par engineers, sub par junior/middle managers, sub par senior management.
Sub par salary. Sub par work. Sub par benefits.
Antiquated products. Behind the curve customers.
    No one seems to care.
It's cute that they are headquartered in Silicon Valley. They are oblivious to silicon valley ethos.

    Advice to Management

Keep milking the cash cow until you can. There are just so many things that are wrong, that It's unlikely you'll be able to turn this around.

I worked at McAfee full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Used to be a great place on a mission. The overall strategy was well communicated and made sense. The pay is good, but don't expect much on the equity side.

    Cons

After new leadership came in, everything changed. The corporate strategy isn't clear and doesn't make as much sense to me.

    Advice to Management

Look at what people are complaining about and try to embrace was has been lost.

I worked at McAfee as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance as an intern.
    Smaller office environment was great.
Free drinks and breakfast each Friday.

    Cons

The internship started off slow, so that was a bit difficult to deal with, but it picked up and got fun.

    Advice to Management

    More engaging training for interns.

I have been working at McAfee as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It has small company environment, but has benefit of big comapny. Work hour is felxible and you can keep work-life balance easily.

    Cons

Processes and mangements are in middle of change. Work is hard and constant debuging due to the character of security industry. Idaho falls is quite small city with nothing really fun to do around.

I worked at McAfee full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

McAfee offers benefits which are at par with some of the well known companies in valley. Very good company culture. There are some talented folks.

    Cons

Too much of bureaucracy and vastly distributed teams in some groups.

    Advice to Management

Please hire people with fresh perspective and affinity towards products.

I have been working at McAfee full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good engineers, good processes, management has realistic expectations, good perks/benefits, management understands the value engineers bring to the company

    Cons

Product Management group immature and has little (if any) oversight, no standards, no reviews of their work, no quality, etc... it's quite sad as I think they are really holding back growth.

    Advice to Management

Revamp entire product management group, get more specialized/expert resources into engineering processes and don't rely on software engineers to do everything. Let them code.

I have been working at McAfee full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits package, like health insurance, IRA, training
    Conscientious and considerate managers
    Challenging and rewarding work

    Cons

Uncertainty as many of the markets they lead in are starting to slow down. The company can buy companies to boost its lineup, however the outlook may not be bright for teams working on products in segments that are experiencing little or no growth.

    Advice to Management
