I worked at McClatchy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to lots of technologies with a focus on high-availability and scale; Awesome coworkers who really care about creating a quality product.

    Cons

Pay not up to industry standards. Typical Dilbert relationship with Corporate is quite frustrating (doesn't help that the tech division is in Raleigh while Corporate is in Sacramento). Both of these contribute to burnout and turnover of quality team members.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your local team rather than Corporate whimsy.

    I worked at McClatchy full-time

    Pros

Unfortunately there nothing good to say about this company anymore

    Cons

If i could give no stars i would. Narrow minded, top down approach that has cost many people their jobs. Always behind the curb due to having old "Print" people making decisions in a digital age.

    Advice to Management

You can start by firing all "C" Level positions that think its a good idea to send an email that basically say they are pleased to fire their staff.

    Pros

Great people - its like a family, interesting technologies, plenty to learn, easy to ware many hats, ability to think independently and come up with out of the box solutions.

    Cons

Management is useless and tends to throw unnecessary road blocks in front of progress. No guidance on direction from senior management. You can can be the best and be layed off while other under performing employees remain for years.

    Advice to Management

embrace quick implementation of new technologies and trends. Reducing head count is hurting you at this point - try coming up with ways of creating larger profits rather than cutting people.
