I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent Benefits
    Vacation Time
    Promotes from within
    Above Average Pay

    Cons

Factory workers have lots of mandatory overtime. Processes are dated and every work process moves very slowly. Upper management does not have much involvement with lower grade employees. Decent work/life balance for office workers, poor for factory workers.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees. Everyone is constantly being told to do more with less, employees who retire are not replaced if the workload can be pushed on to existing employees. Factory workers should not be forced to work 7 10 hour days because of poor planning.

  2. "Overall it can be a great place to work. Most employees have been with the company a very long time. Low turnover"

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

McCormick does it's best to hold on to employees. There have been very little layoffs over the years. Most managers are fair and overall it's a great place to work. They have managed to continue to grow and stay relevant even in these trying economic times.

    Cons

They do not do a good job with helping employees with career development. Getting promoted is challenging and rare. People can be in the same role for 10 + years with no advancement or good feedback onto what is required to move ahead. If you make the right connections, you may go far, but just good hard, quality work will not cut it.

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Research and Development has a very good, creative, and supportive work environment.

    Cons

Very hierarchical, lacks true motive to develop scientists.

    Advice to Management

Pay the right people what they are worth, hire in people that are worth it, not just warm bodies to fill the seats while everyone else has to work harder to accommodate them.

    Pros

Interesting projects , good people to work with, time off between Christmas and New Years. Opportunity for those who want to try new jobs or locations

    Cons

Too many failed ex-Heinz employees running the company. No long term vision that holds up to the next earning release

    Advice to Management

Stop running the company on a quarter to quarter basis

8% company match for 401k. 40hr bonus check around Christmas. Plant shutdown after. Christmas and do reopen until Jan. 2

    Cons

Overtime is slowing down. Use to work 7 days a week now only work 5 or 6. Got to work 7 days strait to get double time. If you miss a day then you get strait time or time n the half.

    Advice to Management

    Bring the ot back.

I worked at McCormick & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The money is good. Benefits is ok. 401k is ok. Overtime was wonderful, if you really needed it, so that wasn't a problem.

    Cons

There is no room for advancement. The training sucks. Lack of responsibility. The cultural in some departments are disappointing. The upper management sucked as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Discipline the ones who need it, not the ones who doesn't deserve it

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Half day Friday's in the summer if you can find the time. Typical big company benefits. Very family oriented and big on diversity. Solid market position so financially very strong.

    Cons

No one ever leaves and given lack of organic growth this makes it challenging to move up without waiting forever. Extremely short term focused. Many public companies are the same, but I've seen some outright stupid decisions made by management. Work life balance in some departments does not exist. Constantly covering for the incompetence of others. Internal talent is not very impressive. There are a few rock stars, but the culture and locations don't attract the best so they are few and far between.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves; too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of employee benefits like extra paid time off.

    Cons

Management has a "hands off" attitude most of the time, do not interact with lower employees. Hard to move and grow as no-one ever leaves and new positions rarely open up.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees.
