I worked at McCormick & Company full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I can’t think of any pros

    Cons

Horrible place to work! No training, support, or coaching. Don’t care at all about their employees and show them no respect. Back stabbing mentality. Outdated systems. Preach diversity, but don’t back their words. No work/life balance. No opportunity to advance. The training/trainers are terrible ! I have never been made to feel more defeated or unsupported. Advice to Management

How about caring about your employees’ well being, rather than treating them like nothing more than a number? How about actually practicing what you preach? How about spending some of the billions of dollars you make to actually supply employees with the resources they need? How about stopping nepotism and the “old boy” network and actually promote people who are willing to change the norm? How about stopping people...

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

-Hunt Valley location for those who don't want to commute downtown -Steady growth (but losing share)

      Cons

-Lack of clear prioritization. Chase after everything, causing us to steadily lose share. -Most people lack strategic thinking, especially at mid to higher levels -Poor work/life balance -Strong sense of nepotism and aristocracy. Many are rewarded and promoted based on length of time at McCormick rather than skill, background, education. -No real career mapping for most...

      Advice to Management

There's an every-other-year Voice of the Employee survey - probably time to start taking that seriously.

I worked at McCormick & Company full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

Great resume builder, plenty to learn and boost the skills on your resume.

        Cons

Absolutely terrible work/life balance. They don’t know how to give employees time off or manage workload. They take on every project that won’t make them money when they don’t have the resources to do it in the first place. Then they expect their employees to “make it work”. 60-70 hour weeks nearly every week, despite restrictions against that. Don’t expect them to hold up their...

        Advice to Management

Your over the top meeting culture doesn’t promote anything except expenses while you pay for catering everyday. Listen to the resources that you claim you value, your employees. Uphold your “2 for 1” values, when you expect your employees to work their life away but office employees walk out at 3:30 on a Friday with a smug attitude.

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time for more than a year

        Pros

Excellent Benefits Vacation Time Promotes from within Above Average Pay

        Cons

Factory workers have lots of mandatory overtime. Processes are dated and every work process moves very slowly. Upper management does not have much involvement with lower grade employees. Decent work/life balance for office workers, poor for factory workers.

        Advice to Management

Hire more employees. Everyone is constantly being told to do more with less, employees who retire are not replaced if the workload can be pushed on to existing employees. Factory workers should not be forced to work 7 10 hour days because of poor planning.

I worked at McCormick & Company for more than 10 years

        Pros

Excellent Pay Lots of opportunities for advancement Interesting work Great opportunities to learn and grow professionally and personally Good work/life balance Great stock purchase program, bonus, vacation benefits Good, smart people Fun business

        Cons

Low on the 401K match, but there were plenty of other benefits to compensate. You may not know how good you had it until you are gone.

        Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. Very glad I was a part of this company for the 10+ years I was there. Helped to set me financially for the future - and gave me great experience.

I have been working at McCormick & Company full-time for more than 3 years

        Pros

Half day Friday's in the summer if you can find the time. Typical big company benefits. Very family oriented and big on diversity. Solid market position so financially very strong.

        Cons

No one ever leaves and given lack of organic growth this makes it challenging to move up without waiting forever. Extremely short term focused. Many public companies are the same, but I've seen some outright stupid decisions made by management. Work life balance in some departments does not exist. Constantly covering for the incompetence of others. Internal talent is not very...
