    I worked at McGill University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Students are motivated which makes working for the university extremely rewarding. Benefits are fantastic.

    Cons

    Salary is somewhat lower than what other universities in Montreal offer. As with all higher education, working environment has a lot of politics.

    Pros

    You have plenty of free time and summer Fridays, 9 sick days and everybody often calls in sick.

    Cons

    There is very little to do. Management is unskilled.

    Make it easier for reimbursement when away on McGill business

    Great campus
    cheap housing nearby, studio apartments go for ~750 CAD
    interesting people
    excellence travel opportunities for conferences and ability to visit particle physics experiments
    good, stable funding

    Cons

    Poor administration and HR that is not clued into what you are doing. Must be completely self-directed and self-motivated for research. Supervisor will not set specific objectives or direction for research. You must be an independent researcher.

    Good way for a student to make some extra money and meet other people not in their field of study... Allows you to get to know your University better...friendly work environment...

    Cons

    Might be more difficult around mid terms and finals...have to manage your time well.
