    Pros

Well known firm, good partner leadership, and adequate pay and benefits

    Cons

Some of the groups can be extremely competitive and closed.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job integrating your experienced hires; hold directors responsible for creating an inclusive culture that capitalizes on everyone's strengths.

"Great experience but commitment to staffing levels was lacking"

    Pros

    Challenging work
Good annual pay increases relative to private industry
lot of freedom to work autonomously once you have proven yourself

    Cons

    Busy season deadlines
staffing levels - for years management refused to increase new start head count, instead relying on consultants to bridge the gap during busy season. This created a lot of pressure on the senior associates as consultants were not prepared/capable of truly replacing a full time audit staff

    Advice to Management

If you want to fill the senior associate ranks internally then you will need to have to over-hire at the entry level staff position. Attrition will naturally remove some from the pool before they reach senior associate level so you can't hire one for one and expect staffing levels to work out.

Also encourage managers/partners to learn how to motivate without negativity. Negative reinforcement can work but only to a point. The managers/partners that I really wanted to perform for were the ones who I didn't want to let down because they were invested in me as a person and my career.

I worked at McGladrey LLP as an intern

    Pros

People can learn more tax knowledge, develop more skills and grab more opportunities to advance my career. The training before my internship was wonderful to learn tax software system and network with other professionals around the country.

    Cons

McGladrey is serving median-sized companies, but sometimes people would like to work for Big four to grab more opportunities and serve bigger-sized clients and expand networking with more and more talented professionals and clients.

    Advice to Management

I think management at McGladrey is great. No more advice to give on management. People are really approachable and willing to answer your questions. The working environment is great!

I worked at McGladrey LLP as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very welcoming, open and accommodating company. Have some intense clients but train you very well. Provide great perks when in a high stress work time.

    Cons

May be hard to move up in some departments and industries due to logistics. May not offer the added benefits of a top four or match what they have.

    Advice to Management

Match the top four since you are at that playing field and will not absolutely no problem getting the high ranking employees you want that will then put in a better effort in their work.
