I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

McGraw-Hill Education is a family-oriented organization and incredibly flexible creating a solid work/life balance. Collaboration between colleagues and the leadership team is a real positive. Management does not micromanage employees. Rather, you are treated as professionals and trusted to complete your work in a timely and accurate manner. The work we do at MHE is noble. We provide educational materials for instructors and students. Knowing that our work is making a difference in the world is really important and rewarding.

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Ed Tech is promising field with a lot of digital disruption and hence opportunity.

    Cons

Where to begin? Let's just say the DPG was very very poorly managed by the CDO.

    Advice to Management

The goal should be to be better not just win arguments.

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are incredible people at McGraw-Hill that are passionate about helping students and teachers succeed. Benefits (401K, Vacation, Healthcare) are strong. Pay is competitive. Flexible work schedules are common. Office environments are nice.

    Cons

Culture has taken a beating over the years, most recently, due to current executive leadership not having an employee focused mindset (many work remotely, do not engage with employees enough). Layoff's are not frequent, but do happen. That said, budgets are tight, staffing is bare bones, and the employees are often tired and over-worked. Operational inefficiencies are all over the place causing the business to be in a constant "reactive" state. Products need a refresh to stay competitive in market. Some are good, some need to go.

    Advice to Management

Focus on your employees. Without them, the business doesn't stand a chance. Hold the executive leadership team accountable for culture .

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Very bright and friendly worker bees who provided the tools would accelerate the painfully slow digital transformation.

    Cons

Minorities are lacking in senior leadership positions. Incompetent senior leadership across the board. Who would work there unless they couldn't land a job elsewhere?

    Advice to Management

Need more younger and innovative leaders. Ditch anyone over 50! Hire more leaders from other thriving organizations who can actually execute.

I worked at McGraw-Hill full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The majority of the people are smart and hard working. Flexible work environment, family friendly.

    Cons

MHE used to be an amazing place to work, but when the company was sold, upper management was continually changed in hopes that the company could catch up technologically. They then began to hire management who knew nothing about the business and then rapidly promote them. Marketing in the Professional division is a circus, they hire confused consultants to lead the charge. If you want to live through constant layoffs, never ending management changes, no inside promotions and answering to circus clowns this is the place for you! No I am not a bitter past employee, just saddened at what a once great company has become. However, there is one caveat, men do rise through the ranks more quickly, especially those who are yes men. If you meet this criteria, apply, your career might skyrocket here.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, listen to your employees who actually know the business. You are not a software company (no matter how many software people you hire), become a digitally advanced content company and you will do better. Investors, look at your upper management, the fish rots at the head.
