I have been working at McKee Foods as a contractor

    Pros

As long as I consistently service all my customers, I can pretty much set my own hours.

    Cons

Products I get from McKee have shorter shelf life than my main competition, presenting challenges at times. As a 1 man contracted company, I will never be able to take week long vacations without hiring a full-time person to do everything from loading a trailer, ordering product from the bakery, selling into stores, rotating product at every stop -every visit, driving my rig ( requires a CDL for my oversized rig). Also cost of healthcare is over the top for single people in open market when you don't qualify for subsidies.

I have been working at McKee Foods (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They have good pay for people without degrees and some of their supervisors are awesome and also the profit sharing is great!

    Cons

You work almost every holiday for normal pay and also they change your schedule and don't tell you but a few days in advance.

    Advice to Management

My advice is to choose your supervisors wisely because a lot of them play favorites and it is normally not the best people for the job

    Pros

Decent pay and hours good opportunities to move around and cross train within the company most of your supervisors are great to work with awesome HR department

    Cons

No sick time the points system is ridiculous they expect you to come to work even if you're sick and then you still get in trouble even if you show up and have to go home

    Advice to Management

Work out a different point system and allow sick time with out write ups or points if doctors notes are presented

I have been working at McKee Foods full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is privately owned, so from my job it does not seem like we live or die by the numbers. We don't have shareholders constantly wanting their returns. The work is fair, good benefits, great emphasis on health and incentives for it. I will never have to work a Saturday since they are Seventh Day Adventist company.

    Cons

For salaried their are no clear steps to get raises or move up, but for hourly employees their are specifics to receive more pay.

I worked at McKee Foods full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The laboratory was one of the better labs for a food company with decent equipment and room. Things were usually kept busy and the work varied quite a bit. Company has very good values when it comes to hiring practices, running the company, and providing benefits.

    Cons

The staffing was reduced increasing workloads to stressful levels at one point. Use to have more freedoms to explore projects, but time was restricted by the workload. Little growth opportunity for growth without changing job description.

I worked at McKee Foods as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    Strong Executive leadership
    Highly focused
    Treat employees more than fair
Super nice culture - family/life balance
    Fun products

    Cons

No room to advance or it will take a long time
Tenure is valued over talent. Lots of "lifers" sitting in chairs.
Slow to move and not nimble in decision making
Talent vacuum can be heard as great people leave for other opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Stir up the mix and take risks.
Eliminate the "leaners" and promote the "lifters".
Look beyond tenure and look at fresh talent
