I have been working at McKenney's, Inc. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

McKenney's is a throw back company to times that you don't see any more. It's a 3rd generation family owned business and definitely run like a family. The company has amazing corporate values that treat employees, customers and vendors fairly. Its consistently ranked a great place to work with lots of ammenities.

    Cons

Office location is south of Little Five Points so only convenient to downtown and South Atlanta folks, otherwise, it's a lengthy commute. Other than that there really aren't any cons of the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep working on opportunities to include employees in the decision-making as the company grows rapidly.

I have been working at McKenney's, Inc. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

In many ways McKenney's is a throwback to a time you normally only hear about from your parents, when a company cared about its employees. When people were treated fairly, when the management first looked at what they were doing before putting all the burden on the front line employees. This means normally hours are very manageable, workloads are shared throughout teams and management. There are so many events throughout the year from weight loss challenges (e.g. Walktober), festivals, food trucks, onsite charity events (e.g. blood drives), the list is endless. There is an onsite gym with basicaly free personal trainers; onsite deli with subsidized breakfast and lunches. Basically, the company is just a great place to work. Its very entrepreneurial, which means your career is only limited by how much you invest in yourself. If you try new things management will support you (e.g. training, conferences).

    Cons

There are very few downsides to McKenney's. The only thing I would say is because of the throwback culture there is resistence to flex arrangements like work from home or non-standard hours.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the investment in employees, continue to challenge people to be their best.

    Pros

Great working environment, wonderful people. I truly enjoyed working with everyone at the company. They are very genuine and can tell they care about you.

    Cons

HVAC was not my favorite, but to each his own. I also felt a little unappreciated as a lower level employee, but that is probably typical across most companies.

    Advice to Management

I feel like contracting/construction is a hard industry for women to feel like they fit in, and McKenney's could work on that.

I have been working at McKenney's, Inc. (Less than a year)

    Pros

This company is filled with very passionate people. Credit is constantly given to people who do the right things. Very goal oriented.

    Cons

Not enough independent work for interns. Most projects are already planned in advance so it seems like busy work is constant but it is applicable to the entire process.

    Pros

Great place to learn about the construction field. They work on some really cool projects (several large buildings in the Atlanta Area). They also have their own SheetMetal shop and Estimation group so you have access to all aspects of the construction process.

    Cons

There were times I was given no responsibilities or tasks to actively work on. Wasted a lot of time sitting around the co-op pen.

I have been working at McKenney's, Inc. full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Conservatively growing company, so they don't over extend themselves; you can have as much responsibility as you competently can manage; this is a great company to cut your teeth on early in your career for 4-6 years.

    Cons

Growth opportunities are very limited; the leadership level is very saturated with "lifers" who won't be leaving the company any time soon; senior leadership is scared to attack new growth opportunities; pay is competitive, but you financial upside is limited and capped; senior leadership has no plan for talent development and acquisition

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your top talent before they leave; do employee retention interviews; elevate your view of Project Managers and reward them according to their work and not the bad estimates you give them.
