I worked at McKinley, Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A breath of fresh air from all of the stale, intellectually void property management companies out there. It was nice to finally work somewhere where they valued intelligence and compensated employees properly for the responsibility that comes with managing multi-million dollar assets. I took great pride working for a company that had such high expectations and backed them up. The work-life balance was great,... leadership provided support from the Regional Directors up to executive management, and managers were allowed to think creatively and solve problems rather than just regurgitate nonsensical corporate policies.

    Cons

The decreased scope of geographical concentration meant my property was sold.

    Advice to Management

Don't listen to the foolish reviews from people on this site content to live among the mediocre mouthbreathers of the property management industry. You have great people in place so keep encouraging them and allowing them to thrive. The culture, values, and compensation provided are all wonderful.

I worked at McKinley, Inc. full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Competitive pay & good learning experience.

    Cons

Be prepared to work 24/7 and respond to emails all night & weekend. Nepotism is real in this organization, and fear is used as a motivation tool on a regular basis. They do fire people at the drop of a hat. Everyone talks about how much respect that for Albert and his “core values”... it’s almost cult-like, but everyone is scared to death of him. If you fail one of his fire drills, you’ll be out on your butt by... close of business. The entire organization utilizes the fire drill mentality. More worried about impressing Albert than actually making a difference for a resident. Quitting was a great decision for me because I was able to move on to a company that respected work-life balance and didn’t micromanage to the point of making me paranoid for my job on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Realize your employees are human and will work much harder for you if you treat them with some dignity. It’s not all about the almighty dollar, sometimes people just want some respect. Albert, you need to know people are SCARED of you. You are brilliant and have some awesome ideas, but it would be great if your company actually lived up to the values you spend so much time bragging about.

I worked at McKinley, Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great work-life balance, wellness initiatives and guest speakers backed vehemently by the corporate office and C-suite, an all-in approach to corporate charitable initiatives (jdrf, American heart association, ele's place, etc) allows employees to give back and have a very real and visible impact in their communities, great coworkers, and a corporate campus that is always improving to benefit the employees. In my... experience, McKinley really puts their money where their mouth is when it comes to employee satisfaction and quality of life. Educational opportunities are many, and some managers allow the latitude to chart your own course and seek out learning opportunities to best serve your own career path. Nina, Caroline, and Meredith, specifically, consistently bend over backwards to assist their teammates, and whatever they are being paid, it could never possibly be enough for those wonderful people.

    Cons

Management structure can bog down the decision making process a bit, and department heads can be difficult to "pin-down" for one on one time. You will either work hard and excel at finding your way ("jump off the cliff and build the parachute on the way down"), or you will fail--there really is no middle ground. The office gossip was out of control over the course of 2018, to the point where many people knew of... impending personnel changes and terminations before they'd been carried out. Transparency from department management is transient at best, and changes are carried out in a sweeping fashion.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on employee well-being, physical AND mental. Make the decision making process as transparent as is feasible, so employees are not left out in the cold with little sense of having "seen it coming".

I have been working at McKinley, Inc. full-time

    Pros

This is a great paying company. You can tell that the actual owners really care about their employees and company. Great corporate team.

    Cons

Management. I have watched technicians get yelled at, all of which were grown, married men, as if they were little boys. There is a lot of favoritism. High turn over. Broken promises. There is no work life balance.

    Advice to Management

My advise would actually be to the corporate office, you should think about sending an undercover employee to all of your properties to see how they are actually being run. You would see why people do not stay, and how over worked certain employees are. Some of your management team makes the entire company look bad.

I have been working at McKinley, Inc. full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

McKinley is a good place to work. Most of the people are nice and the environment is fun. Some departments and properties are more strict than others, but at the end of the day their understanding of work/life balance makes up for that.

    Cons

Like any company, certain departments and people are harder to work for than others. The insurance is decent, but there is no maternity leave, just basic short-term disability and HR did a poor job of explaining Short term leave.

    Advice to Management

Have a better explanation of short-term disability for when one goes on maternity leave.

I worked at McKinley, Inc. full-time

    Pros

Great place to start a career in property management sales

    Cons

Poor work-life balance. Unrealistic expectations and deadlines. Managers have the potential to be team players. Regional directors have the potential to reflect the same respect given to them by their staff.

    Advice to Management

“We love our residents” , but how? . Rent payments, billing statements, past due balances, eviction notices, management harassing residents? How else do you love your residents? Don’t just say it or post it on some website or business Show us!

I worked at McKinley, Inc. full-time

    Pros

The pay is above the rest. Bonus structure is good.

    Cons

Leadership will not hesitate to throw you under the bus. They will work you until you either are forced to quit because you are so overworked or you fail and they let you go. There is no loyalty to the employees. It's a turn and burn. Fear management is how motivation occurs which is a horrible way to treat your employees. There is no respect given so don't expect it. Also you can throw away any idea of positive... feedback and giving you any type of praise if you do well. And once you do decide to leave, expect for your name to be trash talked, gossiped about and false accusations made. There is no work life balance. Emails are sent at 11pm at night while you are trying to rest. There are such unreasonable expectations that you forget you have a life outside of work.

Advancement opportunity's are plentiful. A promote from within culture opens the path to the top with hard work and sacrifice.

Success requires living the job. there is no work life balance. You will never take a vacation or be home for dinner, forget the kids soccer game. This is a life style not a job.
