I worked at McKinney full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Excellent culture and place to work. The people are really smart.

    Cons

Like a lot of ad agencies, there have been some setbacks. Things appear to be on the upswing and I hope it goes well for them.

    I worked at McKinney full-time

    Pros

Supportive, familial culture. Very nice people. Mostly good work with a dash of genius here and there.

    Cons

Sustained growth is an issue for the business and the people. Very few people leave and not many news ones come in, so there's not much new perspective. Very comfortable with being a pretty good agency, not a great one.

    Advice to Management

    Walk your talk.

I worked at McKinney full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

A place that values ideas, where everyone has a voice, where the work and the people truly matter, that invites you into the plan for today and the future, where you're supported by... the village.

      Cons

      Scale for opportunity of growth.

      Advice to Management

Continue celebrating the victories - even the smallest ones.

I have been working at McKinney full-time for more than a year

      Pros

There are/were some very passionate and great people that work/worked here. Office culture is decent and the weekly* free lunch use to be a highlight. *now bi-weekly or monthly which is a bummer.

      Cons

Their best and most creative people have left. The loss of business has really impacted moral. Most of the great things about working here have all but faded away.

      Advice to Management

The C level and executive team is the real problem. They are not leaders nor creatively led. They are focused on the loss of business and not the work. If this agency was really a creative agency- the focus would be on creative work and the business would follow. They should take a real good look in the mirror and start listening to their people!

      I worked at McKinney full-time

      Pros

I'm convinced that I won't find a better team of coworkers to work with - my team was hardworking, fun, kind and genuinely concerned about the work, the employees and the agency. Employees are creative and collaborative. The office is in a great part of downtown Durham close to restaurants and bars, and has a open, loft atmosphere that made it fun to come to work every day.

      Cons

Leadership seemed out of touch with the agency - always trying to make things sound better than they were, resulting in employees feeling that the executive team was disconnected from the reality of the agency. Implemented processes prevented work from being done efficiently and in a timely manner - you'd get approval for something and then three months later be told otherwise. Limited client roster creates unstable...

      Advice to Management

Be more transparent and realistic with the state of the agency to your employees. Stop preaching "Let's go Win" when you're not winning.

I worked at McKinney full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The people are really nice and everyone gets along really well.

      Cons

Client roster is not great. Too focused on awards and agency a-list. Work life balance is horrible. People often are putting in 60+ hours a week.

      Advice to Management

Stop trying to figure out why you are not winning new business and focus on the creative
