I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart people, interesting problems, great training and development, exec level exposure, ability to make it what you want it to be

    Cons

Tough lifestyle at times, perpetual feedback can get grating if you aren't enjoying yourself, need a bit of luck to find the best place within the Firm for you

    Advice to Management

Continue emphasizing the reduced travel models - both clients and consultants benefit

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits were impeccable - the best I ever had. Everyone really cared about the work, very talented and smart. Was given every resource (tools, software, hardware, etc.) to make sure you perform your job accurately, professionally and seamlessly. Very driven and very connected to all other network offices (globally). Co-workers were all supportive and wanted to make sure everyone succeeded.

    Cons

Since McKinsey is so globally connected (pro), it was impossible for me to keep up the work 24/7. The number of emails, phone calls, online chats, etc. were non-stop (days, nights, weekends), so it was almost impossible to keep up, and to actually perform any work during the work day/work night. Enjoyed the people I worked with, just found the work schedule a little brutal (no time for anything else but work). It does depend on who you work for and which projects, client teams, internal teams they are involved with.

    Cons

+ If you don't look out for your own best interests, no one else will

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing benefits, lots of opportunities for go-getters, incredibly smart and nice people.

    Cons

It's an incredibly tough job, especially if it's your first job out of university. Most of what you do here is either self-taught or figure-it-out-as-you-go. It's a sink or swim environment, no matter how much the company emphasizes "mentorship." If you're not sure this is what you want to do, the idea of traveling 4 days a week doesn't appeal to you, and if you need to survive on more than 4 hours of sleep a night, this may not be the job for you. Also, a lot of people here "drink the kool-aid," making it difficult to express your issues or doubts about the job with coworkers, which can be isolating.

    Advice to Management

Create more of a support system for new employees, especially those coming from a non-business background. It might help to have a shadowing portion of training when people first join so they can get a better idea of what the demands of the position are. Help employees clearly understand what is expected of them, and also evaluate if your expectations are truly reasonable.

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Bright colleagues in a very challenging environment. Fantastic for personal development. Excellent jumping off place for the rest of your career

    Cons

Work life balance can be impossible depending on engagement. Not all engagements are "thrilling." At times you feel like you have five people in the team room only discussing color / font on a page.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on career development. Put individuals in a position to succeed.

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

World-class colleagues, pay, and benefits. Accelerated learning and development through apprenticeship and the work. Working there is like winning a career gold medal; you get credit (in some but not all circles) for the rest of your life.

    Cons

Travel and intensity; pace is set by you if you're super-confident or by those around you if you're normal

    Advice to Management

Innovate - the industry is coming for you!
