I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

World leading infrastructure to develop and hone skills as a strategic business thinker; can't imagine a better place to start a career with a bang; amazing professional development team that genuinely works to try balance needs of the frontline consultant with that of the projects/clients

    Cons

Politics and difficult personalities emerge as you grow in tenure--you either find a sustainable pocket which you can thrive, otherwise turns miserable quite quickly particularly as you pivot from the EM to parnership roles.

    Advice to Management

Those that thrive and survive through tenures and elections weren't those that I found inspirational; rather, those that would often crush teams & EMs and play politics remain. While the foundation is second-to-none, I believe overlooking what's happening under the hood and the evolving personality/makeup of the partnership is what will undermine the firm's future.

    Cons

    2. Some leaders have an output-focused rather than people-focused management style

    Advice to Management

Make people leadership a larger factor in partner promotion

    Pros

McKinsey is a decent name to have on your resume, but that is probably the only pro you will get from this organization.

    Cons

This place is terrible. The work is terrible. The lifestyle is terrible. The management is horrendous. The pay per hour is no better than minimum wage. Zero flexibility. Zero understanding. Zero respect for outside responsibilities. They will lure you in with promises of personal development and "impactful" work, but it's nothing more than a lie to sucker in the next batch of recruits that they can churn through to make more money for the partnership. Avoid this place at all costs.

    Advice to Management

Hiring young, intelligent, motivated people and exploiting them to make ungodly amounts of money for yourselves is a shameful practice. End it now.

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart co-workers, fast-paced work, good feedback culture, great exposure to senior level execs in a variety of industries, compensation is quite fair for junior people (and gets very good at the senior levels). The brand carries a lot of weight and employees are rewarded for their time at McKinsey well in the future.

    Cons

Travel can be quite rough, work-life balance pretty difficult to achieve (especially at levels below AP). Experience can depend a lot on the Engagement Manager and the type of project. A good portion of the work is ultimately not implemented by clients.
