I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Sets you up for your career, good mentorship by some senior partners, ability to take on work well ahead of others at similar tenures

    Cons

Work life balance cam be tough. Some partners have unrealistic expectations, often demanded by unrealistic clients who are paying top dollar and under much pressure themselves

    Advice to Management

Cut down fringe benefits like retreats, recruiting events in lieu of slightly higher headcount and larger teams to help with work life balance

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Simply, the best company in existence. Amazing culture and a unique position in the global economy. McKinsey is the oil that moves corporate!

    Cons

Good share of travel. If you don't like to travel I would pick another employer. You can never truly relax, it is always demanding.

    Advice to Management

Keep the push to become a bolder, more innovative company. Keep the level of decentralization. Our decentralized decision making and obligation to dissent is out secret source!

    Pros

Good pay and good superiors. The company opens up a lot of doors later in the business world as well.

    Cons

Overworks college students for a profit. Needs to seriously respect work/life balance in the future moving forward.

    Advice to Management

Don't work people into depression from overworking. People need a life outside of work.

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

+ People: Really smart, driven, friendly, social, mostly normal
+ Benefits are competitive (e.g., healthcare)
+ Company infrastructure, policies, and support services (e.g., IT) facilitate working at full speed

    Cons

    + Leadership can be selfish/ non value-add
+ Basically no bonus, there are no stock options obviously...base salary is lower than competitors (e.g., BCG)
+ Work-life balance is absolutely non-existent, expect to be thrown into battleground as sacrificial lamb by firm leadership at the drop of client's hat

    Advice to Management

+ US needs to install rules that may make work-life balance better, similar to some national regulations in the EU (e.g., no expectations for replies to work email after 11PM)
+ Value proposition (salary/ financial gain + prestige/ other non financial benefits vs. lack of real life due to working hours, travel, etc) is no longer attractive; Need to raise base salary
