    Pros

McKinsey's obsession with feedback ensures that employees are constantly developing and growing. The pace of work is fast, and it's inevitable that employees will learn a lot in a short period of time.

    Cons

The work-life balance is tough to manage. Employees typically accept that Monday through Thursday is all work, and the weekends are reserved for life.

    Advice to Management

The management does an excellent job of providing feedback. I recommend that management find a way to inspire associates to become partners. I don't know anyone who wants to become partner, and there are a lot of amazing employees who would be great partners.

    Pros

Exit Opportunities-When you leave McKinsey, you have the knowledge that can make you an executive of a Fortune 500. After I left (stayed for 9 years), I went on to an executive position at Viacom.

Pay-Comparing to other consulting firms, your pay is great. After a couple years, you're up to six figures, and it grows from there. At partner, expect to make $600,000 to 2 million.

    Benefits-The benefits are great.

Travel-I know some people hate travel, but I love it. I was easily able to manage with my wife and two kids. You just have to create a working lifestyle. Also, you get to fly business class on global flights, and you stay at very nice hotels.

    Cons

Travel-I love travel, but if you'd rather come home to your own bed every night, don't work at McKinsey. Expect to travel 3-4 days each week.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing!

    Pros

Great opportunity to grow. You will gain more and more choice in what you want to do and who you want to serve. The impact you have here will be far greater than working in any other profession straight out of college or MBA.

    Cons

It's hard work. Hours can be long so you need to learn to manage the lifestyle in your own way.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

    Very smart colleagues
    Good on the resume
    Good pay and excellent benefits
I got a lot of airline and hotel points

    Cons

Constant focus on "development areas," not enough focus on current strengths
A lot of your success/enjoyment of the job depends on luck -- what project happens to be available when you are
4 day/week travel is draining - and don't let anyone tell you that 3 day travel is the new model, because it's not!
Nationwide staffing model and travel makes it difficult to feel connected to the office
Don't think lifestyle is manageable for women who also want to balance work with family life

    Advice to Management

Recognize that the vast majority of women have husbands who also work - so the model of "Partner at McKinsey with stay-at-home spouse is the reason lifestyle is sustainable" often doesn't work for women.
