I worked at McKinsey & Company (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Professional business environment and great colleagues to work with
    2. The platform provides enough opportunities to demonstrate your skill
    3. Great atmosphere to build your business sense and leadership skill, small and agile team management makes it easier
    4. Big name, reputable career experience can be used as a spin board for future choice.

    Cons

    1. The firm treasures top-down management while it's not the case when it comes to advanced analytic, there is definitely not enough leaders with analytic background to cultivate data scientists, and you always have to work bottom up which highly depends on your leadership's interest in applying your skill
    2. Organization-wise, your are not treated equally as traditional business analysts (hope it gets better after all the re-org I have experienced), it's easier to be a BA with quant skills to survive in the firm compared with an AA with a business background.
    3. Understand professional service needs to have a "client-first" mindset, but firm like McKinsey needs to take initiatives to educate/push clients to try something new rather than offer something that has created/shared multiple times across client; in short, need to have more proprietary knowledge creation.

    Advice to Management

    1. Can definitely see consulting service being less important in a more data-savvy environment in the future given the big-data as well as the fact that almost every large company is building their own strategy team (many of them are composed of pre-consultant from MBB), and the firm needs to have something "new"
    2. If this is actually the way the firm wants to build their advanced analytic expertise, please build a more friendly environment(adaptable evaluation, realistic analytic goal planning, more attention) for the targeted candidate, at least having a strong leader in position is a good start
