I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    1. Learning most relevant methods, frameworks to solve any kind of problem you find in a business context
    2. Working with biggest companies in any sector
    3. Team-working with highly motivated people

    Cons

    1. Feedback-system only focused on negative aspects
    2. Evaluation often not fair, despite a "clear process", taking in account irrelevant criteria (e.g. taking in account criteria not relevant for the specific position)
    3. National culture tops firm culture, e.g. latin america is not process driven at all (not following standard procedures), very implicit, hard to understand what truly matters in that company

    Pros

You learn a lot, work with top people both internally and at clients, solve top management issues, good perks.
McKinsey is a great place to start a career: you grow quickly, learn about several industries and functions, have the opportunity to do a top MBA and in the end, if you find that it is not for you there will be a ton of other companies fighting to get you.

    Cons

Long hours, below the average compensation in Brazil (don't know other countries).
And least but most important to me: after some time the learning curve start flattering, every project start looking the same and you start get frustrating on some projects that never leave the paper (or the power point - get used to it)

    Pros

Simply THE best top-tier consulting firm, if you want a career in management / strategy consulting, this is the place to be! Amazing learning opportunities, great leadership from hands-on partners, coaching and mentoring culture, very top notch people!

    Cons

High pressure environment, with lots of expectations and long working hours. Way too much travel, not very mindful of consultant base city for staffing purposes.

    Advice to Management

Try to review staffing policies to account for people's base location (i.e. staff people from Rio in Rio)

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary, company car, medical insurrance, bonus.
    Interesting tasks, great corporate clients.
    Steep learning curve.

    Cons

Weak leadership (Feedback is understood as critic-session, not as "strength-based-feedback").
You are only a soldier to fulfill orders.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach during the Basic Consulting Readiness course

I worked at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great culture, great people, very smart
Really good international brand for your CV, especially if you stay longer than 3 years
Up or out culture means you are always stretched and learning, if you are up for it it's great to grow professionally

    Cons

Too much travel, long work hours, stressful situations. A lot has been done to address some of these issues, but it still is hard to balance work and personal life, especially due to the travel. It's great when you are young and single, but gets hard if you want a family

    Advice to Management

Continue the great work, focus on keeping the values, (this from my point of view as a current client): beware of doing too much program management and not enough "content impact", particularly on RTS type engagements.
