I have been working at McLaren Health Care full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No set lunches. Early work shifts available.

    Cons

No holiday pay, must use vacation hours. Hours accrue per paycheck. If at least 8 hours of vacation are not available for upcoming holiday it is counted against you. Accrual is 4-5 hours per paycheck. Dr. Notes are not accepted. Unrealistic work expectations. Over 80% of staff have a 45-1hr commute. 5 minute grace period taken away in the middle of winter. I can go on and on and on about current employer. Please do not get comfortable working for this company.

I have been working at McLaren Health Care full-time

    Pros

Pay is good, benefits are good now but they are getting more expensive every year. In 2020 we will be forced into a high-deductible plan. Generous vacation time.

    Cons

Disgusting work environment, horrible charting system, you never have the supplies you need to do your job. No one ever knows what is going on. Management frequently violates the contract.

    Advice to Management

Actually care about patient outcomes not just money!

I have been working at McLaren Health Care full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Being able to help others through a life changing event. Seeing a patient at a all time low, and seeing them progress and improve strength/stamina. Very rewarding work.

    Cons

The pay is very modest. I work with some people that do not put patients before their own problems at home. Need to leave your problems at the door.

    Advice to Management

Don’t just look at the credentials of a person. Someone might be a great student, but not know how to be compassionate and think of patient care first, putting the patients needs first.

I worked at McLaren Health Care part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I learned alot about what not to do.

    Cons

I worked part time ( 5 days per 2 week pay period) for one year, i was also a full time nursing student. i received part time benefits (medical/dental). my manager wouldnt allow me to switch to a contignent status ( even though i wouldnt have cut back on my hours) essentially she wouldnt have lost anything , i would have lost my benefits.. so thats a plus for them. I was told she couldnt offer me a contingent position because there wasnt a contingent position available, even though our unit was not fully staffed on any of the shifts. i wanted contignent status because i had used all of my call-ins on school days that they would not give me off because "seniority" didnt matter that i was there for a year, the full time girl who had been there a month had higher seniority than me. overall the policys and structure just doesnt make sense. completely overworked as a PCA, nurses were never held responsible for not answering call lights, meanwhile theres 2 pcas on the floor with 30-32 patients, and 5 nurses, and 4 call lights going off. ( i worked afternoons) it was a rare blue moon that we would ever be staffed properly. that was an everyday situation for me, unsafe work environment, and unsafe for patients.

    Advice to Management

if you care about your employees act like it, or show us that you're trying. I shouldn't have to worry every week about being able to go to class because you cant get your act together and hire people.

  9. "good overall culture, many inefficiencies"

I have been working at McLaren Health Care full-time

    Pros

Overall good culture, friendly co workers. Many very capable and helpful staff and physicians.

    Cons

Inefficient system. As with many large companies there is a disconnect at times between the different levels. This makes it hard to correct inefficiencies.

    Advice to Management

Take a serious look at the current physicians as there are some cases where they are providing subpar care because they can or, as in one instance, they are not competent to continue treating patients.

    Advice to Management

Spend time with employees in work environment
