I worked at McLendon Hardware full-time

    Pros

Really cares about employee development and growth. Most of the senior management works crazy amount of overtime to ensure they are giving there best work. Really care about people and doing the right thing.

    Cons

Because they aren't a huge company like microsoft or boing, they cant offer competitive salary but I truly enjoyed all the people I worked with and had a lot of fun, which i believe is far more important.

I worked at McLendon Hardware part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place for college students they worked with my schedule really well. Changing positions was not difficult at all. Best part about working here was the people that you worked with, they were extremely kind and helpful.

    Cons

During the busy season the work load tends to get a bit too much especially for the older folks. They should hire some additional seasonal employees to take care of the physical tasks so that the sales associates can focus on assisting with customers.

    Advice to Management

My only advice to management is to communicate better with one another. The situation of being told two completely different things happened way too often.

    Pros

Love the family atmosphere. I don't feel like a number.
    Purchasing discount is awesome.

    Cons

I wish there were most stores. Customers always want us to be in their neighborhood.

    Advice to Management

Love the pats on the back!

I worked at McLendon Hardware full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Regular schedule, two days off in a row, decent benefits and nice discount offered on product sold in the store.

    Cons

Ambiguous and conflicting direction from executive management, family members do not set a good example for the crew and come and go as they please. Just too frustrating of a place for motivated team oriented people to work.

    Advice to Management

Get on the same page and deliver a message that you really believe in.

I worked at McLendon Hardware full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people to work with, closes at 8pm, corporate and family tries to care about you and its fun. They strive for work life balance yet corporate argues about what that means. If your going to pay management peanuts at least have them scheduled for decent hours. 50+ hours a week is not worth the meager pay.

    Cons

The company is going through an identity crisis that doesn't seem to change, too much money being spent on corporate salaries and not enough given to employees that have been loyal for 10+ years. It's sad when team members are struggling to eat as the company spends frivolously on people that should be fired.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring former hardware managers at a higher rate then those who work really hard to make the work life better. When half of your team is telling you the manager is ineffective you should listen to the team.

I worked at McLendon Hardware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I can honestly say that only good thing about working here was my last day of employment. Any good opportunity came at the cost of pointed fingers, senior leadership yelling at one another, and very little professionalism.

    Cons

Senior management has very little direction. They will say one thing and turn around and act a completely different way, often pointing the blame to another family member or employee. The company is struggling financially and has very little wiggle room when business is suffering (which is frequently as of late). The compensation and benefits package is on the very low end for the industry and the fringe benefits are non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Move on and let an educated, skilled, professional run the company before it's too late.
