Dysfunctional Operation

Good Pay. On its face 'Safety is priority one'
Cons
Only a very small group of insiders travel with this company. Local hires are treated poorly and disposed of regularly. No teamwork, one person tells you to do something, another verbally abuses you for doing it, indicating a total communication failure in management. Infighting is an everyday occurrence.

Pros
Good benefits and good pay.
Cons
McMillen LLC, a husband and wife run company with a 10 year history, merged with Jacobs Associates, an employee owned firm with a 60 year history. Complete culture clash. The merger was sprung upon Jacobs Associates stock holders who had no other choice but to vote yes on the merger. The merger was not properly vetted and no management firm was brought in to make sure the transition was a smooth one. Top talent from Jacobs Associates have fled the company. McMillen is now a majority stock holder with very strong opinions of how the company should be run. Benefits are being cut. For whatever reason, the CEO and other top leaders do not stand up to them. Family members within McMillen also promoted as leaders in marketing and HR who take their commands from husband and wife majority stock holders. It’s very sad to see what has become of what was once an amazing company with excellent and unparalleled talent.

Nepotism at its finest
Feb 1, 2017 - Anonymous Employee in Boise, IDRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Decent Pay - Stellar Christmas Parties - Outstanding Halloween Costume Parties - Diverse Projects
Cons
- Merger ruined a great company with 6 decades of success. - Nepotism. No career advancement, unless you're an unqualified family or close family friend. - Owners too busy building personal house to focus on company that's falling apart. - Unqualified incompetent personnel in upper management roles. - Leadership genuinely has no interest in and does not care about their employees. - No work-life balance. - Upper management frowns upon having outside interests, hobbies and families. - Extremely unethical leadership that requires their employees to maintain a flexible moral compass. - Leadership forces out great talent because they're intimidated by it. - Managers only hire "Yes Men". - Gross inequalities in every way imaginable. (Gifted Stock, Pay/Raises, Bonuses, Time Off, Promotions, Vehicle Allowance, Job Assignments, Etc.) - Leadership travels First-Class and expects employees to travel Economy. - Support provided for a certain few, no support for those who need it. - Leadership is afraid to accept that the company is failing and employees are jumping ship at an unheard of pace. As evidence, by the numinous false positive reviews posted by them on this site. (Please notice that 5 positive reviews are posted immediately following a negative review.)

Pros
Excellent staff throughout company. Interesting projects. Good pay.
Cons
High-stress environment, heavy on internal politics, and plagued by nepotism. There are no pathways to success unless you are related to management. Unqualified family members/spouses in leadership roles. These managers micromanage to cover up their inexperience or are not approachable.

Pros
-Good Pay -Had some really good employees, but most have left the company
Cons
-Owners play favorites. Promotions are not based on performance, rather they are based on personalities. -Nepotism is a serious problem, family members are giving the highest jobs, and are not required to perform, or even come to work on a regular basis. This has created a serious moral issue. -The Owner's refuse to acknowledge that there is a serious moral issue, rather they feel that everyone should thank them for the opportunity to work there. -The Owner's are very tough to approach. -I would advise young Professionals coming out of college to look for employment at another company, as they will never receive a promotion unless they threaten to quit the company. -The company does not believe in a work life balance, the work load is unmanageable. Management feels and expresses that the way to correct moral is to give employees more projects to work on, which in turn makes the moral issue far worse. -No career development, or career advancement opportunities.

Pros
Exposure to large, interesting, and global projects. Ability to take on as much responsibility as you can handle. Good pay. Great technical mentorship. Some travel opportunities.
Cons
Depending on what office you are in, you may get very little exposure to actual construction sites. Company bureaucracy/politics can get in the way of promotions (and hence your career progression). Not sold on the senior management team.
