Supportive, Collaborative, Fun place to work!
Nov 7, 2019 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
McMillen started out as a family business, and while it has grown, that family mentality stays strong and makes for a great work environment. Leadership is cognizant of a good work life balance and supports its staff wonderfully. I recently had health issues and was incredibly grateful for the support I needed to get well and not stress about losing my job. Incredibly talented engineers and staff to work with - some of the best co-workers I've ever had that leads to great teamwork and project results.
Cons
Workload can be intense and challenging at times, but it is worth it. Seeing and contributing to good work provides great job fulfillment in my opinion.

Boat floating at sea with no direction

Decent pay, plenty of travel options, some interesting projects
Cons
Inability for management to come to agreements, ad-hoc management, insecure IT, lack of network storage organization, disregard for work/life balance, lack of communication amongst groups within company, undesirable cities for work, lack of training, very limited options for upward mobility, lack of solidified directives from management, more small boring projects than big and fun projects, disregard for flexible work options, traditional hierarchy, predominantly male workplaces

Still a great company with great projects
Jul 29, 2016 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Multidisciplinary projects with interesting solutions -Projects throughout the US and some international -Work with multiple people from different backgrounds of construction/engineering/marketing/hr -Average health benefits and good 401k -Many great employees
Cons
-Upper management does not pay attention or encourage training younger staff, and no mentorship program. -Personnel make statements and set erroneous standards which are not discussed or established in company handbook (i.e. upper management saying things like 'we don't do this here' but has no basis behind it). -Upper management not supportive of middle management to make decisions. -Promotions given too quickly, making a top-heavy company. -Pay not competitive. -Too much fighting and back talking amongst upper management. -Lost the small, family-style, culture and feel. -Work/life balance not there.

Pros
-Good Pay -Had some really good employees, but most have left the company
Cons
-Owners play favorites. Promotions are not based on performance, rather they are based on personalities. -Nepotism is a serious problem, family members are giving the highest jobs, and are not required to perform, or even come to work on a regular basis. This has created a serious moral issue. -The Owner's refuse to acknowledge that there is a serious moral issue, rather they feel that everyone should thank them for the opportunity to work there. -The Owner's are very tough to approach. -I would advise young Professionals coming out of college to look for employment at another company, as they will never receive a promotion unless they threaten to quit the company. -The company does not believe in a work life balance, the work load is unmanageable. Management feels and expresses that the way to correct moral is to give employees more projects to work on, which in turn makes the moral issue far worse. -No career development, or career advancement opportunities.
