I worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are the best McNeil has to offer, thanks to J&J. Decent salary, not the best. Bonus is based on a performance evaluation which is very subjective but is fair. Working conditions are not the best, but I have seen worst.

    Cons

Some management are there because they were lucky to be in the right place at the right moment, not a surprise. A lot of favoritism, not a surprise too. The worst is the discrimination against minorities within the company no matter J&J "loves" diversity. No chances to move, no matter if you are well qualified for a position if a director has a friend which is a friend of a VP, you are doom. Sometime non-sense is the rule to do the job. There is no job security, they will find any excuse to fire you. They change priorities every hour. The lack of information is the rule, "you need to know basis". Management keep you in the dark.

    Advice to Management

Be more intelligent, use your resources at their highest capacity. Train people, trust your employees and let them grow. That way you will grow with them. Do not discriminate... The rest I will keep it.

I worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good physical environment - Ft. Washington location. Average contractor hourly rate. Discounted products at the company store. Opportunity to work with very professional and creative graphic designers on consumer packaging concepts.

    Cons

Some senior leadership art directors at NYC art studio had difficult attitudes -did not directly communicate what their expectations and needs were. Non-existent development and feedback communication from management.

I worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

J&J benefits are decent. Gained valuable Consent Decree experience. Salary is decent. On-site store is nice to buy cheap McNeil products.

    Cons

A lot of long-term J&J employees (McNeil or other divisions who move to McNeil) are lazy and know their jobs are safe as long as they don't do anything egregious. Cronyism and cliques, even (especially?) with management. Workload can be incredibly heavy for one but light for another, ruining work life balance. Lessons from CD seem like they haven't really been learned. Bonus wasn't good at all.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of dead weight - don't retain people just because they've been with J&J for many years. Practice what you preach in terms of quality.

I have been working at McNeil Consumer Healthcare full-time

    Pros

Good benefits, many hard working professionals.

    Cons

Upper Mgmt in Quality unit, especially in QC at FW Site operates as a clique. In 2015 Managerial positions have been re-filled with unprofessional, non-qualified in leadership friends/family members brought in by their sponsors and the working environment has been worse than ever. All accomplishments of employees and contractors since 2013 have been downgraded and criticized. Even though the FW site successfully passed all inspections thanks to hard work and expertise of all these people, working tirelessly long hours, weekends, holidays.
During increased workload, resources have been cut with no strategy or plan of action to recover. It seems like they wants the labs to fail.
“Dead wood “ personnel issues have not been addressed while highly productive, skilled, professional employees are working for those who slack or left with no recognition, no clear vision for their professional growth and no job security, while exposed to favoritism, lack of leadership and strategy.
J&J Credo values are not only followed but have broken on regular basis. Employees have no one to go for advice or complaint, since the clique operate within a pillar from low Mgmt up .
Anyone considering joining McNeil-run! You better research other divisions of J&J family.

    Advice to Management

Change Upper Management for competent, qualified and caring Leaders.. Listen to the voice of common employee and practice what you preach.
