I have been working at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Always busy which makes the days go fast.

    Cons

Work/life balance - always make it seem like a big deal to have to leave early for something or take a day off. I really don't like the PTO system. They take all holidays out of your earned PTO bank instead of just giving them to you like most companies so you don't get much vacation. Little room for movement/growth. The company overall is extremely behind in technology. Can't believe how much paper is wasted in a... day.

I have been working at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing

    Pros

Okay benefits, alot of messed up production fixes to work on.

    Cons

Production quality poor, over work managers, massive amount of overtime for workers, disregard processes, don't care about work/life balance, politics are over the top

    Advice to Management

Get out and listen to the front line employees, look at your hourly overtime percentage, running 50-60% overtime doesn't help work life balance

I have been working at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing full-time

    Pros

Worked at McNeilus for 20+ years. Usually jobs are available because of the high turnover. Best place to see negative and poor practices in action.

    Cons

Complete lack of leadership, discipline, or quality. Get things out the door is the only priority. Finger pointing and backstabbing are desired and rewarded qualities for mangers. Processes are fro show only and largely ignored. Hostile environment. No investment in people or tools.

    Advice to Management

Apply some basic leadership and management. Token improvement events look good on paper, but changes are never actually implemented.

I have been working at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing full-time

    Pros

The company has potential to be a great employer, but only if they decide to focus on the workers.

    Cons

Politics play a lot in the HR department , the women are all very catty adn do not care about hte employees they are hiring. This culture that has been driven and cultivated by the new VP from Oshkosh Corporate.

    Advice to Management

    CHANGE!!!!

I worked at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay, lots of freedom, large corporation

    Cons

Extremely negative culture, company seems stuck in the past, high turnover rate, infringes on work-life balance for manufacturing engineers and production employees

    Advice to Management

Focus on improving culture. Don't overwork production employees, this contributes to a high turnover and production problems. Implement technology into the plant. Use technology to avoid running out of parts, which happens far too frequently.

I worked at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing full-time

    Pros

Hard working people in a rural setting in Minnesota

    Cons

Lack of an ERP system for a large manufacturer. Because of this there is poor work life balance. In addition, new VP of HR, a young woman, is firing older employees and hiring younger employees to keep cost down. I find this unethical.

    Advice to Management

Put in place an ERP system. Stop firing employees because of their age and replacing them with employees half their age. This practice is unethical and is a growing trend in the US to keep cost down. It is a sad day when we look at employees as commodities.

I have been working at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing

    Pros

    Good people, very family orientated.

    Cons

Medical premiums are crazy high, the work is a bit much for what they want to pay. And if the market is low around the time for your annual raise you will only get 1% no matter if you have been there 1 month or 30 years.

    Advice to Management

Clean up your crews, so you don't have one person doing the work of 3 people.

I worked at McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing

    Pros

Its a job. It will be there the next day.

    Cons

No motivation for advancement, offensive raises, doesn't matter how hard you work as long as you keep your mouth shut.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees instead of claiming an "open door" policy when stepping thru the door has negative effects.
