I worked at MeadWestvaco as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance seemed to be okay for the paper industry, even for some of the higher level engineers.

    Cons

Co-op was not geared towards learning about the process and more towards having some cheap labor. They tend to low-ball starting salary offers.

    Advice to Management

Add more emphasis to learning about the process during co-op terms.

    Pros

Very casual workplace. Everyone is friendly and open to you asking questions. Generally only a 40 hour per week job culture. Meeting are happening constantly but not to much where you cannot get things done.

    Cons

Leadership will lie about what the direction of the company is especially when there is a merger looming. Constantly hitting roadblocks with multiple antiquated systems from previous mergers.

    Advice to Management

More Flex-time. Stop trying to sell benefits that are less than current benefits as if they are better. We all know that it costs you less which means we are getting less.

I worked at MeadWestvaco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of very talented employees. Generally good work/life balance. Stable stock exchange history.

    Cons

Seems to be a bit of confusion about what they want to be when they grow up. And the mergers and acquisitions led to more corporate politics than I'd seen elsewhere.
