Send young engineers to other sister plants for training and audit purposes.

I worked at MeadWestvaco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great and engaged management, friendly environment, partnership and collaboration, flexibility, people that really care. Opportunity to work with Salesforce, and gain experience in Supply & Demand management projects & Kazan events.

    Cons

In general the company as a whole is heading in a positive direction but some of the Plastics division's systems are outdated, which at times can cause and create additional challenges. Disconnect from headquarters and manufacturing locations.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to work remotely, I believe this will allow you to keep top performers longer. Not allow lower performers to pull the team down as much.

I worked at MeadWestvaco as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked at the Mead Mahrt Mill in Cottonton, AL. It is the largest coated board mill in the world and there were lots of interesting opportunities to get involved in large-scale industrial processes. Management always seemed to be available to talk.

    Cons

I sometimes felt that my position was superfluous. I had very few responsibilities and was sometimes discouraged from getting involved in other areas.

    Advice to Management

Talk to co-ops about how their jobs are going. You may find that some of them don't have much work to do.

    Pros

Worked there for a little over 5 years in the Huntington Beach, CA office. We had a good team and we became a family. It was very hard to leave.

    Cons

    I don't recall any cons.

Just always communicate and show your employees you appreciate them.

I worked at MeadWestvaco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Cross functional development throughout the supply chain sector. I loved the environment, the pay was fine because they accommodated for housing.

    Cons

If you weren't a motivated individual or you weren't a great fit socially, you struggled. I had a great experience because I connected on both a professional and personal level with most of the employees and higher ups.

    Advice to Management

I think the program was pretty top notch. It was a small enough program that each individual was cared for compared to working for a huge company that didn't really care about individual co-ops.

    Pros

Large company with room for growth. Tend to promote from within and willing to provide opportunities to those that demonstrate ability and work ethic.

    Cons

Highly focused on main business segments and try to apply similar management styles across the board where business manager insight should be more highly valued.

    Advice to Management

Trust those who are in the lab, field, and in touch with the businesses that the collective bottom line relies upon.
