I have been working at Measurement Incorporated full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule. 100% paid health insurance. Very competitive salaries. A ton of vacation days. No dress code. Commitment to community service. 7.5 hour work day. Layoffs are extremely rare, many of the employees have worked a decade or more. Lots of places to eat and shop within walking distance.

    Cons

Only 7 paid holidays, but you do get an additional 2 days to use whenever you want. There can be a lot of construction going on in the area, so you have to get used to taking detours.

I worked at Measurement Incorporated full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had a very forward thinking group of innovators building exciting new technology for a few years.

    Cons

Existed in a bubble of innovation in a very backwards company using legacy development tools and practices. Punished innovators after a couple reorgs. Hearing sad things from friends about layoffs and loss of contracts.

    Advice to Management

Management focus is lacking. Senior management is inconsistent.

I have been working at Measurement Incorporated full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people, in downtown Durham, freedom to explore job responsibilities, decent pay, good vacation

    Cons

Financial problems - layoffs and work/pay reductions. Lack of communication from execs, low morale, lots of people leaving for other jobs. Sad 401K options and no matching.

    Advice to Management

Fill exec positions with people who are qualified to do those jobs.

    Pros

No dress code, wear whatever you want to work.

    Cons

Things have gone downhill at this company in the last few years. There have been several rounds of layoffs and pay cuts. The company does not invest in its people. No training is offered, no professional development. Add in no raises and that cost of living increases have stopped and you have a company to avoid.

    Advice to Management

Replace yourself with a management team that knows what they are doing.

    Pros

You'll get to work with many highly educated people. Wonderful location in the heart of downtown Durham.

    Cons

The company does a terrible job with project management. When there is a schedule it's usually very unrealistic. As a result project after project have been running into service problems. This has been going on for years and last year it finally led to a total meltdown on a 108 million dollar contract. Departments don't work together. They are busy passing them blame. Layoffs occurred in January and we are hearing more are coming in about 3 months. Some staff have had to take big pay cuts.

    Advice to Management

Hire trained project managers. Get departments to work together as a team.

I worked at Measurement Incorporated full-time

    Pros

Relaxed dress code, quiet office environment, smart coworkers.

    Cons

The company is about to go under. After two major mess-ups, the first one in 2014 and the second in 2015/16 with their Tennessee contract, the company's coffers are about to be empty. A second round of layoffs have begun and those who aren't let go are having their salary cut by 20%. Management never communicates the situation with employees leaving a cloud of doubt and misery constantly hanging over everyone's head.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees. Stop trying to hide everything. We are adults. Tell us what the situation is like so we can make decisions to protect ourselves and our families. If we need to start looking for other jobs, let us know before the day you surprise us with our pink slip. Also, listen to your people. Stop ignoring valuable input.

"Great place to work for temporary job!"

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

The best thing about MI is the people. It is a laid back work environment scoring standardized tests on a project by project basis. The projects last anywhere from two to six months, so it is great if you are looking for something short term.

    Cons

If you are looking for something year round and permanent, this is not it. There are not always projects going on. The pay is low.

    Advice to Management

Some projects are on a work-from-home basis. Increasing the options for those would help.
