I worked at MedImmune as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Great work/life balance! Friday socials with free food and activities and music, many places to relax/recline - even a video game room!
    - The environment is fast-paced and expectations are high, but everyone seemed to be having a great time and are very willing to help if you approach them
    - I was never given secretarial work or any jobs that were not great learning experiences, and was encouraged to take breaks and get free food at various lunch-and-learns where I got to meet other interns and learn about work being done in other research departments

    Cons

    - They've recently cut down the number of interns they're taking, so it's gotten more competitive

I worked at MedImmune full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They offer competitive salaries and excellent benefits. In addition, they support a healthy eating lifestyle and provide a full workout facility with exercise classes.

    Cons

There really isn't many things I could say that are cons. If I had to pick one area of concern it would be not enough electric charging stations for electric cars.

    I worked at MedImmune full-time

    Pros

Nice campus. Hard-working employees dedicated to the science. Strong mission statement.

    Cons

Poor management. No culture of accountability. Negative environment created by a few key management officers.

    Advice to Management

Actually execute on the mission statement. Stop the petty infighting. Support the hard working staff. Take accountability rather than pushing it to whatever corner you can.

I have been working at MedImmune full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people are fabulous, the perks are nice & the pay is more than decent in most cases.

    Cons

You're part of (very) big Pharma and the business decisions being made indicate that more & more clearly every year. The "we're in this together" attitude is becoming "every man for themselves" which is leading to significant burnout.

    Advice to Management

Leverage the brilliant minds you have invested in to drive the innovation you're hoping for. Spend less on cosmetic improvements and more on fostering a culture where people are allowed to think (and work) outside the box. This will improve retention more than a passion for people development.

I worked at MedImmune full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Bright future large pipeline and smart people.

    Cons

Organizational schism between a established Big Pharma culture and a dynamic biotech make it difficult to gauge management's desire for 2nd line quality oversight.

    Advice to Management

pick one corporate culture for both MedImmune and AstraZeneca.
