I have been working at MedImmune full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, high morale, great pay and benefits. Smart colleagues. Some groups have great managers, others not so much. Moving around in the organization is possible. Promotions are hard to get.

    Cons

Ever present sense that you could lose your job based on the quarterly performance of the oncology portfolio drugs.

    Advice to Management

Get the layoffs done and move on.

I worked at MedImmune as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed being treated like a member of the team even though I was only an intern. I had a lot of independence and felt like I got a real taste of what industry R&D is like (fast-paced, lots of multitasking, results-driven).

    Cons

I felt somewhat exploited as I was paid a significantly lower wage than most other interns. I got the sense that at least in my department, everyone was under a ton of pressure to perform, although our goals were not focused. The manager I worked under seemed to be taking a shotgun approach to science (try everything and see what works, rather than being more selective and allowing more for in-depth experiments). As an intern I probably should have been put on an existing project with a mentor, but instead was asked to come up with my own project and work alone with minimal training provided and no one specific to report to in the lab who could help me with technical issues (or even just show me around). This ended up being pretty stressful and isolating, and therefore I was less productive than I could have been.

    Advice to Management

Have a formal management plan for interns - don't leave them to fend for themselves. I would have had a much better experience if I hadn't felt so isolated from my peers in the lab. Reporting to a VP was nice in some respects, but without a research mentor it took much longer to get up to speed and accomplish anything worthwhile.

I worked at MedImmune as an intern

    Pros

I think this was a decently well-paid for undergrad interns. I got to work with amazing scientists who treat you with respect, because I landed in a really good lab and got a really understanding manager who was seriously interested in training me.

    Cons

There was zero relocation assistance this year, and you pretty much just need to be local to do this internship. There was also no opportunities to work full-time immediately following the internship, unlike other companies that intentionally hire an intern for full-time employment consideration.

    Advice to Management

I wish they would help us find real full time employment opportunities or at least help us develop networks for finding careers since they don't hire any of us after the internship.

I worked at MedImmune as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great vibe. The decor and work environment are very nice.
    Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Lack sense of clear direction for the company from senior management
Internship was what you wanted to get out of it, as in I worked very hard and learned an a lot during my summer internship from all the different scientists, but I know other interns who didn't put in much effort and got very little out of the experience

    Advice to Management

The company could be better organized, with more streamlined workflow. The management and work ethic seems inefficient at times.
