I worked at MedQuist full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Franklin TN is a nice area

    Cons

They purchased Spheris, the company I was working for, and immediately started laying people off. When my turn came I was given a list of all the other people being laid off that day and all were very experienced and all were over 40. It was clear that they weren't interested in experience or paying the salaries that experience commands. Additionally their only real purpose in buying Spheris was to get their hands on...

    Advice to Management

I'm not from the East Coast, they wouldn't listen to any advice given.

    I worked at MedQuist

    Pros

If you have a strong manager you will be well compensated and protected from CONSTANT company changes, which often include layoffs. This can make for fast promotions.

    Cons

Constant changes. Long hours. Current company culture is terrible with low company moral.

I have been working at MedQuist

    Pros

Working from home is a definite pro. Pay and benefits were much better in the past before the merger. Tech Support is excellent, available 24/7, and will send you whatever you need...even overnight if needed. Some of the local managers are good, but most are stretched too thin to be effective.

    Cons

The biggest downside of Medquist/Spheris is the pay. They don't give raises...ever. I asked for a raise once, and they told me my "raise" is getting faster and doing more work. That would even be fine with me, if it were possible. They took away all bonuses and incentives based on production and gave everyone a "flat rate" pay per line. A couple months later, they gave everyone a pay cut (YES...they lowered our pay)....

    Advice to Management

Management does not need (or want) my advice. Most of the experienced MTs have already left... and they know that. The rest are waiting for the economy to get better to find something else. If management doesn't start appreciating their employees (yes...I mean with money, and FAST), the first company who does will scoop up thousands of MTs for one heck of a customer quality-based service. I see this happening within...

I have been working at MedQuist

    Pros

    Flexible schedule, work from home.

    Cons

NO RAISES-EVER actually after MQ acquired us in a buyout my pay was cut twice within the year. More and more work being sent off-shore-the account I had been assigned to for over 10 years was taken away from us due to outsourcing-no warning, just.....GONE! Familiarity was the only way I was making anything close to a paycheck. Upper management does not give a crap about transcriptionists and how a pay cut impacts them......

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your MTs like they are idiots and don't know when they are being ripped off. Stop outsourcing-it will bite your tail eventually. I've seen some of the work that comes from off shore! Give a raise to deserving MTs and stop taking things away from them. TALK TO US once in awhile, and pay attention to what you hear!!!

I have been working at MedQuist

    Pros

Pretty flexible work schedule, opportunity to increase income, variety in accounts. I really like my manager and she makes things bearable and tries to keep us in the loop as much as possible. Opportunities to grow your base of knowledge. They also have a discount program for books and office equipment for MTs which is quite nice, as well as discount to join AAMT. Pay is good in my experience. Paid time off is excellent....

    Cons

No communication from senior management about issues that can effect your entire career and family. Recently bought out by an Indian company, C-Bay, who is a big out-sourcer of transcription. This in turns makes Mequist and/or C-Bay the biggest transcription company in the interest, but based on things I have read there is a big fear that the ultimate goal is to outsource as much of the American business as possible...

    Advice to Management

They should let remote employees know what is going on and keep them in the loop as there are many sites where the MTs and QA people visit and chat and things really get stirred up and out of control.

    Pros

Work when you want. Work from the comfort of your own home.

    Cons

Pressure to do more, but no compensation and threats of losing job if not working more.

    Advice to Management

Increase the wages, stop threatening workers who did not promise the hospitals extra work.

      I worked at MedQuist

      Pros

Work at home, flexible hours, reasonable expectation of production and turn around time.

      Cons

I started in the early 2000s, when it was a family run company that was bought out by "the big guys", TWICE!, so I have no idea what their expectations are now.

I have been working at MedQuist full-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Working from home is truly wonderful.

      Cons

There are too many cons to add here. Their biggest problem is they keep sucking in companies and then dumping their employees, sending the work off to India. Since Spheris merged, I have watched both of my primary accounts moved to India. As an MME, a proofer, I get to see the very low quality work that comes of that.

      Advice to Management

I'm quitting, and they don't listen to anything their employees say anyway.
