I have been working at Medcan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A growing company located in downtown Toronto. Terrific staff and product. Helping people stay healthy!

    Cons

Busy pace to work. Management expects a lot from everyone.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees for new ideas.

I have been working at Medcan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I don't have many - decent benefits, nice bonus twice a year and some other perks.

    Cons

Very disappointing. I am looking for another job.

Management is terrible. I work with a large team - most of us work full out all day long while others (long term people) are lazy. A team member of 10 years constantly claims she does not know how to do the basics of her job. Not to mention the high amount of sick time she takes. How is she still working here??? It seems like there are 2 sets of rules - some people get away with murder. Terrible HR/Management, both allow and encourage this practice.

Workload is overwhelming and the office environment is toxic, loud and designed to give you zero privacy.

Do not work here if you value your mental health. Too much stress.

Vacation time is terrible and hard to get approved. Management is NOT supportive.

    Advice to Management

None. You don't listen or take advice from your staff.

I have been working at Medcan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I am shocked to see so many negative reviews. The managers are very flexible, they care and they listen if you go them. If you have an issue, try to solve it, and if not, go to them. Great benefits, personal training during work hours, pay is very fair. Yearly health check up for yourself or your family member.

    Cons

Little too much politics within certain teams. But hey...which workplace doesn't have any drama? You just have to be mature enough to stay way from these things.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! It's very easy to criticize people until you are placed in their shoes. I've seen some of the hardest working managers in this company and they definitely work without complaining!!

I have been working at Medcan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Thy offer some nice perks
    Bonus program twice a year.
    Free coffee and tea.
You learn a lot about customer service, being organized and prioritizing.

    Cons

I am not surprised by all of the negative reviews.
Medcan has become a revolving door and has lost some really amazing people.
    Staff are overworked and stressed.
Very political and a lot of back stabbing and gossip. I stay out of this but it makes for a toxic and unhappy work environment.
    Management is not responsive.
Hard to take breaks and lunch due to high work load.
I am currently looking for another job and know several other people who are as well.

    Advice to Management

Middle management (managers and directors) need to improve and learn to LISTEN. You are an advocate for those you oversee. They are so busy trying impress VPs and the CEO that they have stopped caring about the front line staff. Career ambition and advancement is the priority.

Upper Management - get in touch with your front line and find out what is really going on! You have lost so many good people and are going to lose more. Get your heads out the sand and fix it.

I worked at Medcan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits and wellness plan. You get access to personal training during work hours for next to nothing as well as access to the clinic.

    Cons

The pay is very low. The company is growing rapidly so there is a lot growing pains in terms of structure and process.

    Advice to Management

Provide better training and more structure for process and procedure.

I have been working at Medcan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Team events are fun. Benefits are good. Corporate partnerships good to take advantage of.

    Cons

Work gets hectic. High turnover. Lots of inefficiences and poorly managemed depts. Some depts. are better managed than others. Lots of good workers leave because they are over worked but under appreciated. The better you are at your job the more work you get. Be prepared to work long hours. Put your foot down fro the get go or you will be taken advantage of. If you're pretty you shouldn't have any problems flirting your way to the top.

    Advice to Management

give your employees the tools to perform their job well. Build processes that make sense logistically and not just on paper. Put yourself in your employees shoes and show your appreciation.

    Pros

You get to help people. Good benefits including personal training.

    Cons

medcan is growing at the expense of clients and employees. Little concern for the people who actually have to do the work. Long hours for office staff and weekend work for clinic.

    Advice to Management

Less Directors and up and more staff to actually do the work.

I have been working at Medcan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's fine if you just graduated and are looking to gain experience for 6-8months. Medcan on the resume looks good. You work in an environment where you promote balanced health/work lifestyle. Yearly, every employee gets a free CHA checkup.

    Cons

Where to start...FASTEST TURNOVER RATE... I would say people quit faster than they would working at a call center. Horrible management. Managers keep blaming 'upper management' and treating good employees like dogs. You are scheduled to work from 8-4'30pm and you get non-stop patients until noon-1pm and after making you work like a slave, the managers send home the casuals/part-timers to save few bucks...saying it's 'orders' from "upper management". Parents who have arranged baby-sitters have to go home and send the baby-sitters home too now. Just this month we lost some our most hardworking employees in all clinic areas. There are no more good employees because good qualified employees are valued elsewhere and quit without second doubt.

    Advice to Management

Start promoting and paying a reasonable salary to good employees. That means increase in wage, proper lunch breaks. MANAGER - By paying less than minimum average for a position to an employee and blaming 'upper management' so you can save some few bucks and look good, you are losing hardworking workers with lots of potentials. Change now.
