I worked at Medco Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Alot of opportunites for advancement. Great perks prior to the acquisition by Express Scripts. Not sure I would be able to handle customer service however.

    Cons

middle management and supervisory staff have no checks and balances. They pretty much do what they want without having to be fair across the board.

    Advice to Management

The view is Express Scripts is very robotic when it comes to the views of their employees. Adopt some of the old Medco ways.

I worked at Medco Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A patient advocate felt very at home in Medco, and quality work was always the most important.

    Cons

Medco threw money around, leading to a devastating merger.

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter now...all the management is gone.

I worked at Medco Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some exceptional people to work with. Great benefits. Travel opportunities.

    Cons

My VP (training) was building a hen house. Women were given preference on all projects and even though bonuses were not officially shared, it was apparent that the women of the department got higher bonuses than the couple of men. While hiring was not based on nepotism, 5 life long friends, who have worked together at different companies, all seemed to have come together under their VP friend.

    Advice to Management

Watch your hires. Be focused on real recordable results. Don't let others steal credit.

I worked at Medco Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Starting salary was $13/hour. Many opportunities for advancement. Ability to work from home. Supervisors were approachable. Upper management was accessible and cared about associates.

    Cons

Long interview process, multiple interviews over several days. Lack of consistency and nowhere to find answers to some questions. Some stress over sending the wrong medication to customers, this is a big deal. Although the starting pay was high, after first review at the end of the year, we only received a .20¢ pay raise for the next year. The training ended at 5pm so we got caught in rush hour on the way home.

    Advice to Management

Shorten the interview process and create an employee development plan.

I have been working at Medco Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was once a contender with a bright future.

    Cons

Fell apart fast as upper management ran it into the ground trying to maximize shareholder value at the expense of key clients.

    Advice to Management

Fire sale to a competitor is not a brilliant career move but you know that already.

I have been working at Medco Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a wide cross-section of technologies created an unparalleled opportunity for personal growth; survival with one's mental health improved one's ability to be successful in the wider world of work outside Medco.

    Cons

An extremely stressful environment to work in. Job uncertainty was deliberately telegraphed to cow workers into compliance with haphazard upper management decisions.

    Advice to Management

There is no advice that would be heeded by upper management. As soon as David Snow walked in, the culture changed from developing long-term success of the core business of Medco, to enhancing stock prices on a quarterly basis, for the benefit of upper management, which culminated in boon for them when they finally were able to be acquired by Express Scripts.
