Hopeful it wouldn't be a typical big agency, but it is

      Pros

      - Overall decent people - Small office allows for direct contact with leadership - Startup mentality among many in Chi market where they all pitch in to help

      Cons

      - Consistent with other agencys where beauracy showed its ugly head. Changes were made that hurt morale and feeling among team and in resulted in low trust of leadership. - Startup approch to office leaves little work/life balance - Few clients = few opporutnities to grow or move around

      Better than the average agency

      Pros

I've worked at a few agencies and MediaCom was definitely the most positive experience of them all. It's less of a meat grinder and it feels like they really live up to their "People First" motto. Definitely a better work/life balance than I've seen at some of the other holding companies and there are good resources from within GroupM to draw on. They're winning a ton of business and have turned the company completely around since 2011. Sacha is a great CEO.

      Cons

It's still an agency, which means dealing with lower wages than you would get at a publisher/advertiser/tech company and they still maintain the industry practice of paying someone less when promoting from within than they do when they hire external talent.

      Bigger is NOT always better

      Pros

Salary is standard/competitive to other agencies Benefits package is average - 401k, health/dental/vision, vacation/personal/sick days (many holidays and Christmas through New Years off) Food from vendors always around the office, free breakfast and snack time at 2pm everyday Free beer if you work on ABI Rooftop deck is nice on sunny days Multiple wins for the agency recently (pro/con) *Some teams are nice, with handful of smart people - lucky if you get to work with them and learn from

      Cons

Overcrowded due to multiple wins, no seats for new employees (seats are becoming available by kicking out older team accounts to other floors, which is unfair to them) Work/life balance is non existent - Late hours and weekends are expected from high profile accounts Communication is lacking across management and across teams, causes stress and frustration Clients are treated as gods, team leads will not push back causing unnecessary work and unreasonable turnaround

      Great Experience

      Pros

Wonderful people who actually care - from management to coworkers, everyone that I've come into contact with here at Mediacom (both NY and Chicago offices) has been such a pleasure. The accounts are big names and there's challenging work to be done with them. Leadership especially is what I've found to set this office apart. Our managing director is one of the warmest and most transparent people I've had the privilege of working with in my career. Even HR has gone above and beyond, specifically if you want to transfer locations or agencies within GroupM. This office really is representative of our company slogan, 'people first...'

      Cons

This is an advertising agency, so it comes with the industry. Clients can be difficult. You will be asked to work late and sometimes on weekends. This is not very often, but something to keep in mind.

No room for advancement, no raises, underpaid, over worked.

      Pros

-Positive attitudes among the employees even though they are over worked. -Pretty office space. -Genuine people. -National clients. -Freshness Days off of work.

      Cons

MediaCom Chicago needs to evaluate it's employees better before hiring them. They have no HR presence in Chicago and no formal interviewing process. A homeless man with a resume that says he's a media planner could get hired at MediaCom because they don't ask pertinent media-related questions in their interviews to get REAL talent into their office. And the REAL talent that was there, they ignore, give no raises, over work them thus breaking down their usual cheery and positive demeaners -- all while these real talents are forced to work with the idiots who lack experience in the field. Their over libral approach to managing an office and not correcting blatent mistakes makes it a terrible agency to work at. You are surrounded by idiots who don't know how to do their job and senior management won't fire anyone because "they would feel bad."

      Mixed feelings

      Pros

Strong opportunity to gain knowledge as an entry level employee. Large and strong client portfolio. Exciting pitches against some of the industry's best agencies. Easy to transition in to other roles within the agency if you find that yours is not a good fit.

      Cons

Terribly low pay for NYC cost of living. $33k/year is chump change when you're facing upwards of $1,000/month in rent. Very high turnover but what media agency doesn't have that.

Growing Chicago Footprint with Lots of Opportunity

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Team that genuinely cares - Reactive to knowledge gaps and listen to team needs - Numerous internal promotions demonstrate opportunity for growth - Chance to impact agency culture and be heard, due to size and open door mentality by leadership

      Cons

Growth of the company is coming from new clients, which is GREAT. However, with new business, means new process, and steep learning curves. Nailing down process and making sense of info from previous agencies can be frustrating and and lead to long hours.
