I have been working at Medical Center Health System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Your fellow co-workers. These are the people who you "go to war with" every day. Many pros that I would have mentioned have been discontinued in the past year.

    Cons

Severely under staffed. Completely under appreciated by management and administration. They have taken away many benefits that employees felt worthwhile to stay in west Texas for. They talk about cutting costs but are building clinics around town like they are Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks. Voted in closed session to discontinue retirees benefit to paid insurance leaving former employees scrambling to find insurance. They have NO regard for current, past or future employees.

    Advice to Management

Upper management is horrible!! But what do you expect when the administrator and the board are as cut throat as they are. They need a competent administrator who isn't looking out for his own welfare and pocketbook. Preferably one who can work a calculator.

I have been working at Medical Center Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff work as a team and are willing to help and educate you. The nursing education department is knowledgable and helps advance your knowledge by offering certification programs.

    Cons

Under staffed and over worked. Nurses don't have enough help and are always carrying six patients. Charge nurses sometimes carry a patient load of 4-5 patients.

    Advice to Management

Better staffing for safer patient care

    Pros

Nursing staff is great. Everyone helps each other out and there is room to enter different specialties that your heart desires.

    Cons

Heavy workload. You can easily get burnt out by the patient population and patient assignments. Ratio is 1:6 here and it will wear you out.

I worked at Medical Center Health System full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with. One of the best teaching hospitals around this area. The system makes you keep updated in everything. Great nurse educators around. Good system that support each other. Good retirement plan. Always open to work extra.

    Cons

High living expense in Odessa (apartment rent). Not competitive salary. Sometimes short-staffed

    Advice to Management

Avoid short staffing. Generous compensation needed considering the high cost of apartment/housing of this area

I have been working at Medical Center Health System (More than a year)

    Pros

Very knowledgable staff, always available & easy to get along with. The docs are always willing to explain what they are doing & why.

    Cons

A lot of them are still residents, but that's part of it and I do not mind teaching & answering questions.

    Advice to Management

There are to many chiefs & not enough Indians. For the most part they are good & easy to get along with. No major complaints.

I worked at Medical Center Health System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

nice bosses, normal 8-5 M-F, benefits work well for single workers or those with a full family however the services must be done at mch for full benefit

    Cons

some policies are old and outdated, and the higher ups really dont give proper appreciation to the workers

    Advice to Management

i really dont have an advice that would be very helpful to the management other than listen to the workers below you, since they're the ones who are working in that particular office etc then quite frankly they are more well verse in what work policies would work then you are
