I have been working at Medical Center of Central Georgia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nursing staff, there is a good amount of paid time off, ample amount of request days per schedule, self scheduling.

    Cons

Feedback of any kind is virtually nonexistent. Management expects you to just know hospital changes (which are constant) without actually telling you. They are constantly hiring "hireups" but cutting hours from techs, receptionists, etc. Budget cuts continually leave us without supplies. The turnover rate is extremely high. The hospital does not seem concerned about keeping staff and making staff happy. Management awards with raises based on favoritism, not a job well done. Staff shortages are constant and nearly daily. Punishment of staff is the go-to for management instead of reeducation in regards to patient care.

    Advice to Management

If you work on staff satisfaction first, this can lead to better patient satisfaction.

I worked at Medical Center of Central Georgia (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Phlebotomy staff's night shift is the hardest working staff at the Medical Center of Navicent Health in Macon Georgia.

    Cons

The Phlebotomy Department at the Medical Center of Navicent Healtg is very understaffed and underpaid

    Advice to Management

They need to hire more people and they might be able to keep employees and not have such a high turn over rate if their employees were paid more

    Pros

The Medical Center has on the job training regardless of experience.

    Cons

Its hard to move up the corporate ladder or advance to the next level. It's not always based on experience but who you know in the department you're applying for that position.

I have been working at Medical Center of Central Georgia full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Easy place to get your first job out of college, and get some awesome experience. We take care of some very sick people. The training is awesome, if a little redundant at times. They spend a lot of effort and money training new nurses. You can get as much overtime as you like, which is great if you are not lazy.

    Cons

Typically new nurses will have to sign a 2 year contract in exchange for the extensive training MCCG provides. This is because the turn-over is VERY high. Not the easiest hospital to work at - the outlying hospitals send their very sick patients over to us because they can't cope with the acuity. For me, this is a pro, but YMMV.

    Advice to Management

The carrot vs the stick argument. It seems that MCCG has determined that people will leave no matter what, so they have instituted a contract with a large $6k penalty for leaving before 2 years. Many nurses and techs who work here know the hospital is desperate to keep people, so they take advantage of the situation. It's like you cant get fired. So instead of taking pride in your work, many lazy people will do the bare minimum and show up when it suits them. A common quote about tech's is a bad worker is better than none at all. I'd prefer to fire the bad worker, and work towards hiring better people. The Med is on the defensive, which is a losing battle. If tech "A" doesn't do her job, why should tech "B" do hers? Allowing people to continue to under-perform brings the morale of everyone down.
